  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Following on from Jeff's great front page post.
There are unofficially 16 players on our roster with only 15 spots, so....

Who doesn't make the cut?
I hope we actually trade Evan Turner for some 2nd round picks or a young prospect from a contender that needs a solid role player. I'd rather give Perry Jones and Young some minutes to see what they can do in all honesty. As much as I hate Turner's game, he does give us flexibility as a point forward.

Ball handlers: Marcus Smart, Isaiah Thomas, Terry Rozier, Evan Turner
Wings: Avery Bradley, James Young, R.J. Hunter
Swings: Jae Crowder, Jonas Jerebko, Perry Jones
Bigs: David Lee, Amir Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller, Jordan Mickey

So who do you think is gonna get traded or cut?

I think the two most likely candidates are Perry Jones and Evan Turner.
Of the big men I think that Zeller and Sully are most likely gone to a contender. Depends if Danny can find a good value deal for Olynyk. I really don't know who they'd rather keep out of Olynyk and Sullinger.
They're all expiring deals.

I just don't know if it's more likely there's a trade than just cutting someone and paying them $2 million dollars...
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

I sure hope Olynyk isn't traded.  I think his offensive versatility for a seven footer is vastly underrated.

I'd like to see him remain as an important part of the Celtics future.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sully traded, though. Not that I don't like him, but of the two, I choose Kelly.  It seems to me that it's a choice that's going to have to be made eventually.

Agreed. Would love to see him improve on his 35% from 3, but I'm just being greedy. He has been 35% each of his two seasons, but he does seem capable of improving.

I don't think it's crazy to think that Kelly could have some seasons where he's up above .375 from deep.

Perry Jones is gone most likely. We got cash considerations in the deal, so his salary is probably mostly or entirely paid for by OKC. It's not ideal to just waive someone who could potentially have value, but there aren't really any other options, and I'm sure Danny knew this was the most probable outcome when he agreed to take on PJ3.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

If no additional moves are made to clear up a spot, I wouldn't be devastated if James Young gets waived.

ainge would not trade zeller and  unless jones has incredible training camp and brad says gotta have  him, he's gone or if sully comes back overweight and out of shape-javaale mcgee has yet to latch unto a team so maybe perry is just another big with talent that isn't going to happen

Why wouldn't Ainge trade Zeller? We have a slurry of big men and Zeller doesn't have much more of a ceiling as an NBA player.
He's also expiring like Perry Jones, and Jones fills a position of need at the SF spot where we currently have Crowder and a part time Evan Turner.

In fact Jones could come in as our back up small forward quite easily.
Are we really going to keep a big man rotation of:
Olynyk
Sully
Lee
Johnson
Mickey
Zeller?

That's 6 big men, 4 of whom are expiring. Lee and Amir aren't getting traded until at least the All Star break. That leaves Sully, Olynyk and Zeller all in the *possibly* trade bait category.
I'm not saying it's a guarantee, and there's every possibility that they waive Perry Jones, but I would say there's still a chance Danny finds a trade before just waiving someone.

I thought Amir Johnson signed a two year contract?

Lee, Sully, and Zeller are expiring.  Johnson, Mickey, and Olynyk aren't.  You are probably counting Olynyk as an expiring contract, but we have a team option on his rookie contract for the following season.  I wouldn't count that as expiring.

Amir's 2nd year is non-guaranteed or 'team option'. Essentially the same thing.

So he's not an expiring contract unless we want him to be an expiring contract.  To me, that's a significant distinction.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
My prediction is one of Sully, Zeller, Olynyk or Evan Turner is traded for a future pick and we roll with the 15 left over.

I like Jonathan Holmes but want no part of having 4 rookies on the roster, especially when we will probably draft at least 3 rookies next year.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
