I'll say that long-term, Philly still fascinates me. No, I'm not a 76ers fan, but that entire situation is such a ballsy all-in approach that I absolutely have to respect it. "Superstars or bust". It's a mentality you can only really ever afford to have in video games. Hinkie went for it and so far... it's been slightly disastrous. I mean, I don't blame anyone for thinking this is an outright failure.
... But maybe not.
Nerlens Noel is still one of my favorite prospects in the NBA. Defensively, he already appears to be an impact player who can be the epicenter of an elite NBA defense. Defensive bigs are hard to come by. He's adding to his game offensively. What he showed over the second half of the season was truly impressive. His shot looks improved. He's one to watch this year.
Okafor has fans. He probably doesn't need any defenders. People seem to agree he's a legit star prospect.
The Stauskas trade was underrated. I'm intrigued by Stauskas in year 2. I'm alone on Stauskas island, but he's someone I kind of hoped Boston would steal from the Kings (even suggested we should have offered #16 for him).
People still believe Saric has a big future.
This Embiid situation is depressing on pretty much all basketball fan levels. As a Celtic fan, I'm cool with it... since seeing a Philly Juggernaut doesn't do anything for me. But man... what a mess. Again, obligatory mention that I've eaten my crow on the Embiid front... I was basing my perception of the situation on what was being said publicly by the team and people close to Embiid. I listened to podcasts of people who had hung out with Embiid and noted him dancing, jumping around dunking, having no pain, etc. I decided to go with "innocent until proven guilty"... "not serious until proven serious"... And ended up dead wrong. I was on the losing end of the Embiid guesstimation.
That said, it's now October 18th, 2015 and we've yet to see any official confirmation that Embiid did in-fact rebreak his foot. All the reports of him jumping around, dunking, feeling no pain, walking around without a boot, etc... HAVE been confirmed by multiple sources. I ask the smuggest of the smug to please step forward... Point me in the direction of your posts from months ago where you predicted that Embiid was probably threatening his strength coach, refusing to wear a walking boot out of spite, refusing to participate in workouts/thearpy, throwing out healthy food in favor of hot dogs, and dunking/running against the will of the team. Something tells me nobody was beating that drum. I said months ago that there were a few "conspiracy theory" camps. Those who felt the team was lying about the injury = Conspiracy camp 1. Those who felt Hinkie was trying to make it seem more severe than it was in efforts to drive the Lakers away from his target with the third pick (D'Angelo Russell) = Conspiracy Camp 2. And those who felt he was more-or-less fine, but the team refused to let him play until he was 110% = Conspiracy Camp 3. I was in Camp 3. Most seemed to be in Camp 1. None of us really knew what was going on. Apparently we all neglected to consider Conspiracy 4: Embiid was a disgruntled immature young punk who was going to run around dunking on his foot in spite of his team's efforts to help him. Go figure.
I should have paid more attention to this video... analyzed it like the Zapruder film... perhaps than I would have discovered Conspiracy theory 4:
