The Case for Starting RJ Hunter

This is a great post for after RJ does well in his limited regular season minutes, not before.

This is just me, but I don't think it would be bad to start him like every 4th or 5th game. Kinda like in baseball.

Avery doesn't have the best injury history in the world and getting a relative rest, especially during the back to back type things, might be a good idea for everyone.

Way to early for this. He had a nice summer league, but not even a dominant one. As others have indicated, he didn't even start for the summer league team, let alone our actual NBA team. And for a guy who supposedly is going to shoot the lights out for us, he only shot 30% from the floor as a whole.

Hopefully Hunter proves he can be starter some day, but he has done nothing to prove that now.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.  The only problem I see is that Steven's strategy has always been to set a strong defensive tone before the first subs.  Bradley is better suited to that.

RJ  looks to be a starter at some point. This year? Maybe. Unless AB gets traded  or
 gets injured( a real possibility but I hope not!) I doubt he starts this year.
 However I see his minutes increasing over time. Not starting does not mean RJ will not impact the game. He will. As his NBA confidence grows and he learns by his mistakes he'll grow into what most would like to see from day one.
Remember, RJ has shown a lot but he still lacks NBA experience.

I like the idea of sending James Young down to Maine and starting RJ as a message. Also put a little fear into the heart of Avery.

Also if RJ just does horrid it will give him a sense of what to work on and why.

Yes he lacks experience, but playing will help him get some.

And....he might just do very well. If he does really well...trade for something good

Don't need to convince me, he's a baller. The Celtics have a ton of depth though, and since he's a rookie he will have to earn his minutes.

RJ won't start yet.  He has to EARN it.  But if he does, oh boy I feel we are getting a real treat.  Hunter has RIDICULOUS range.  And all his teammates give him props for his shooting ability.  I trust the player evaluation more than the message board on ;-) 

The other thing about Hunter is of course his defense.  He has shown so far that he is not a turnstile.  That's good.  IF Hunter can play at NBA average level on defense and couple that with Plus shooting and Plus passing for the SG position, that justifies having him on the floor.

Hunter imo is a future 6th man.  Just too thin to go against top sgs

I completely agree, but lets not jump the gun. We cannot just assume that what we saw from Hunter will translate completely go the NBA level, particularly in his rookie season. I wouldn't start him over Bradley unless Bradley is traded, or Hunter takes advantage of his limited minutes early in the season and proves he should be starting.
