We get paid to take a chance on a tall SF guy with high ceiling.
He's healthy. According Thunder's fans, he has confidence issue.
Let's try him for 1 year, while solving a bit of our Swing position's depth.
For what is worth, who among our young players ever score 30+ points in a game lately?
Not saying it's relevant, but still, it shows the ceiling of this guy.
Come on Brad, make this one the steal of the decade.

Around the same time, AB against the Mavs scored the same 32.

And Kelly scored 30 plus, but that shouldn't count (it was against the Sixers).

Pressey is a FA tomorrow, something is about to go down using him or we would have released him by now so he could be on someone's SL. We don't hold onto people without giving them some way to have a shot.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

OKC has been very good at picking players, what went wrong w/ PJIII?
Guess Scott Brooks didn't like to play unproven players. Jeremy Lamb was also a player who didn't get a lot of playing time in OKC ::)
I also read that PJ3 didn't fit into Brooks' system which also could explain why he didn't play so much ;D!

Developing rookies when you are competing for the title is not something easy, but I think they are only interested in top prospect. Average ones are moved apparently. Next in line Lamb next year, probably.

Another pointless trade. We already have a team filled with role players. Hopefully, there is a method to Ainge's madness.

He projects best at small forward, where we are not deep at all.

I love this trade. I like this more than the David Lee trade, honestly. I can't believe this is to get a 2nd round pick. I think Danny has every intention of keeping him. This is not Chris Babb, for heaven's sake.

You like this trade more than David Lee ?

That's ridiculous.

We got a low risk high reward prospect a second rounder and cash for nothing...How is that pointless? Regardless of how miniscule it is we gain cap space and two assets for nothing. Theres no reason not to do this deal.

First, we don't gain cap space. We're using cap space to trade for him. See tweet below. Second, we already have a bunch of role players. Jones has been in the league for three years, we know what he is. I'd rather keep holmes personally. I just think it's a pointless trade that won't add to anything. We already have a bunch of Perry Jones on this team and nobody values them as an asset. If they did, we'd been able to trade in the top 10, or be in the Cousins sweepstakes. Which we weren't by the way according to all the reports. Kings preferred the Lakers assets. So again, yeah, this is a pointless trade unless other things happen.

Since BOS did not make the GSW trade or sign Crowder yet, Perry Jones is taken into cap space. Smart move by BOS to take advantage of space

Now we can look at the Celtics having 3 first round picks in 2012.
Zeller(got for nothing), Sully, and PJ3(for Nothing). Not bad and even better is PJ3 can give us something.
Now we can wipe the Fab Melo pick off the books.
http://www.nbadraft.net/2012mock_draft had us taking PJ3 at 21

Agree, We also saw that here in Boston where Doc didn't give playing time to the young players. It must have been twice as hard for PJ3 given that he's playing behind KD too.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

We paid little for a young player that could develop, and be of some use. Obviously we need a trade, but lets give him some room.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Great move at position of need.
PJ3 is younger than Sully and Olynyk I believe.
Does anyone remember the games he had when Durant and Westbrook were injured? He went off.
great low risk mini swing.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Thunder had shopped Perry Jones for a first round pick, per rival execs. Ultimately, they did the only thing they could: They dumped him.

Or to further illustrate how punitive the modern NBA luxury tax is: OKC's tax bill drops from $24.6M to $19.5M just by trading Perry Jones

OKC got a trade exception too, but they were desperate to avoid the tax. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent PJ's full salary over to pay off his bill.

I wouldn't count out Holmes yet by any means either.

Perry Jones can be our poor man's Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Per 48 Jones was about 14 Pts/6 Rebs as compared to 19/10 for GA.

Per 82games, Jones played the most as SF and then a little at both PF and SG.  I think his biggest weakness as a SF is that he doesn't shoot the 3pt well (career 29.3%).

I am fine with this trade.  I certainly don't expect him to change the world but we add some length and athleticism.  How can that be a bad thing?

Do not be surprised if this ends up the best acquisition of the off-season. Under CBS PJ3 could be a [dang] good SF. Length and athletic is what the doctor ordred.

Have they though? I think they're more hit/miss with drafts except when they were absolutely horrible and had such high drafts to hit on Durant, Westbrook, and Harden. Adams and McGary have been good too so maybe you're right. The Thunder just haven't been good at developing young talent, ie. PJ3 and Lamb.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!
