I think it's the latter.  This team has a lot of depth and is a few moves away from being a legit contender imo.  We are going to be very good this year.  I said this a while back but always have felt this wouldn't be a long process.  Ainge has been targetting players for a long time  and drafting well.

Our depth chart is very deep right now

pg-Smart, Isiaiah, Rozier
sg-Bradley, Hunter, Young
SF -Turner, Crowder, Jerebko
PF-Sully, Amir, Mickey
C-Zeller, Lee, KO

Pressey, Thornton, Babb all gone or overseas.

I think the Celtics made a concerted effort to draft well and add Lee and Amir.   That's 5 guys right there that could and in some cases should contribute heavily this season.  Plus the amount of draft picks we have coming up.  Ainge is going to make something happen.

Acquiring duplicative assets = rebuilding.

That team is looking pretty darn good to me though.   We are going to make moves somewhere.   Amir, Lee, Rozier, Mickey and Hunter that's a lot of additions to a team that was pretty good last year.

Option C.

Adding talent and trying to be competitive at the same time. Right now C's are not a top 10 team, maybe some of the young guys improve and Danny makes another move. Road to being a contender still looks far away to me, I consider contender = top 5 team.

Some of this depth chart is way off.  Given Sully's behavior last year, he may not start, Crowder over Turner?   Zeller over Lee?

KO is our 3rd string center now?  Wow, so you figure 5-8 minutes a game?

Building a contender for the 2017-18 season.

Yeah -- if the question of this thread is whether Danny is building a contender in 2015-16 then the answer is absolutely no.   2015-16 is a building year and in 2-3 years -- if the chips fall really well for the Celtics -- the C's could be contenders.

We need 3 guys that are better than every single player on the current roster (note: better than Marcus Smart is now as opposed to what he projects to be).

I hope rebuilding. We have no stars(except what Smart and young guys project to be). Regular season basketball is completely different than playoff basketball, the stars just turn it up and start playing harder....look at Shaq.

Yeah, I mean, I see the two as being the same thing. If you're rebuilding, you're doing it with the intention of becoming a playoff team/title contender. Otherwise, why rebuild? Just be the Kings every year.
