hunter has played better d than expected or has better court awareness than james and has those long arms but he gets blown by at this level-rozier is going to be a good one,watched a training video of his and his  program was intense-these rookies are lucky to have smart with them,to be led by a 2nd year vet that leads by example--

Unless we solve the logjam situation, would it be weird if we leave Hunter and Rozier in the D-League for one year, or atleast we open up a roster space for them just so they could keep playing heavy minutes, and develop?

I liken this as what they do in European football, where they loan their young players to small squad so they could get first team experience and just continue to play, and continue to grow. As it's stands right now, we have AB, Smart, IT4, Turner. Unless something happens, those guys are certainly not going to play over those 4. Call them up if needed, but maybe it's a good idea to leave them in Maine for a while, keep playing and just keep developing.

I think it safe to predict that they both will be doing time in the D League.  Minutes are going to be hard to find at guard with Smart/Bradley/Thomas/Turner

I believe the d-league schedule is not the same as the NBA schedule. They will have some opportunities at the NBA level.

Rozier and Hunter both better ceiling than AB

Rozier is way ahead of where AB was at his freshman Celtics years......way way ahead.

AB has .....very poor ..handles .....he is either helping the team or shooting them into a hole

I have been surprised by how often Rozier gets beaten off the dribble. He seems quick enough but tends to over-commit and bite on ball fakes.

It's a fixable problem, but I thought he was supposed to be a better defender than he's shown.

  I can't picture Rozier in the d league,  he wouldn't gain anything from it.  He already seems ready to play NBA mins.

Hunter I feel will spend some time there, but not as long as James Young did, if I had to guess.

I also feel AB/Turner and for sure Pressey will be gone soon. Making the log jam much less serious.


 Be on the lookout for the Rozier and Smart backcourt. I have a good feeling about that duo working out real well.

I agree.  He gets beaten, all the time, by guys that are supposedly slower.  Not sure what's going on...

Turner was our starting SF for the second half of the season so he is really not part of the equation at guard.  For now I think the 96 minutes at guard will be split between Smart, Bradley, and Thomas with maybe spot minutes for Rozier and Hunter.  If or when one of these guys prove to be at least at Bradley's level then you may see Bradley go on the trade block.

I haven't watched the games, but that scouting report doesn't scare me for 2 reasons:

1. He was drafted in the second half of the first round. I don't expect much right now. He is used to playing college ball, which is pretty pathetic compared to NBA talent. I expect him to get abused for a little bit as someone not expected to be an elite talent. The reality is that summer league scrubs would have been top opponents in college.

2. Team defense matters a lot for getting burned on the perimeter. Not many defenders can shut down guys on the perimeter. Most need to force offensive guys towards certain, low percentage, better defended plays. That only works if the team is all on the same page defensively and the perimeter defender understands the team defense. I don't expect that to happen in summer league.

He could get exercise and game time in the d-league. More than he would sitting on the bench.

I do believe that NBA practices are very valuable to guys at his stage. But when we are on a long road trip with rare practices, he will be better off in the d-league than watching from the bench.

I don't think there is a shot Rozier sees the D league. Too talented and doesn't lack in defense or speed. You'll want that talent practicing against your starters (giving them competition) and getting work in. He's got a shot to be special.

Hunter would be a more likely candidate for me, a la James Young. He gets Young's role from last year.

Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Easy to see. Very nice game already at 21 years of age, and can immediately defend. When you can attack the paint and get anywhere you want with that speed and athleticism, you'll be able to get off any shot you'd like in this league.

Just takes time. Keep the development going.
