Welp, it looks like the circle jerk is proceeding nicely. I think I'll leave the thread before I get any on my monitor.
I mean, we could go through and look at all the posts about how Rondo was going to come back and be just fine which, in hindsight, look significantly dumber. All it proves is that none of us can see the future.
Some just act like they do.
Yeah but dude you, in particular, act this way all the time. You did it with Tim per Rondo, you did it with Triboy on Aaron Gordon (or something), and you do it with LB on Embiid.
The common denominator here should be fairly easy to spot.
Right, because his opinions are shared by the masses. Ironically, I think some of the biggest back and forths ever were between he and Tim. Usually I disagree with people here about basketball related topics. Isn't that only normal? Diffent minds = different opinions. LarBrd was dismissing all the reports of Embiid's medical issues, something (medical field) that he probably has no knowledge about. And not only was he doing so, but he was doing so in a very smug manner.
I know you're trying to be his PR guy, but he's a big boy and has written A LOT about Embiid. Isn't it only just that he gives a response on the news?
Some of the biggest differences on this blog have been between me and LB. Most recently Biyombo, prior to that Rondo, also relating to Oscar Robertson from time to time. I also disagree with him about Embiid, but that's not really the point.
What I'm saying, Eddie, is that you continually post like a ****, and that it's annoying to continually read your posts calling out other posters, particularly when you do it out of nowhere (like you did in this thread) instead of reading posts that relate to the situation at hand, rather than your weird fixations on specific posters on specific topics, is a drag. A measure of self-awareness would be nice, and probably result in a better reading experience for many posters here.
LarBrd33 and Embiid/Noel/Sixers have become almost synonymous on this forum, with the way he writes about them. Is this not a Celtics forum? So when you have a tendency, almost to an absurd level, of praising on opponent, while throwing crap on the "home team", you're fair game to take criticism. This means posting some of his snarky comments, comments that were just a couple of weeks ago, on the exact topic at hand. Why is that out of bounds? Do you think LarBrd wouldn't have gloated endlessly if Embiid had played in Summer League and dominated the competition? Do you realize how unbearable he would've been? Maybe you have LarBrd on a Gandhi like pedestal and think he wouldn't have said a word, but given his history of Sixers boasting/Celtics bashing track record that's more doubtful than Embiid's future. Again, is this not a Celtics forum?
Ed, you and I were disagreeing about Embiid. On an earlier page of this thread, you shared one of my posts about the situation. I was getting fed-up defending my stance. Also, you were perpetuating a lie that I was a 76ers fan trolling the forum... this is something that I reached out to you privately about and asked you to stop, because I had two separate members of the forum PM me asking if I was actually a 76ers fan. I'm clearly not a 76ers fan, but. I assure you I haven't shed a single tear on this news about Embiid. It's a bummer for Embiid and Philly, but it has no impact on my fandom as a Celtic... if anything, this is good news for us since we were unsuccessful in trading up for him.
I stand by everything I wrote in that post. All signs seemed to be pointing to the situation being less serious than most people here were rooting for. I could only post what I knew. I was scouring Philly blogs, news sites, their forums, reddit, etc... trying to digest every piece of Embiid news I could... and surgery didn't seem like the top option. HOw can they say that he's feeling no pain and that he hadn't re-injured anything... and jump to the conclusion that he needed another surgery? It didn't make sense. And despite the widespread opinion here (which wasn't really based on anything tangible), I felt the need to share what I had actually found. In the midst of that post, I crassly left open the possibility that I could be wrong:
Perhaps the doctors will come in and say "omg guys you botched his surgery. Re-do it". Maybe they Will come in saying, "omg you guys, we know he's been dominant in workouts lately but these ct results prove he will never be healthy. You might as well just cut him, bros". But that doesn't seem in line with what is actually happening right now.
So I guess that happened, right? Ok. Cool. You guys win. I'm eating my crow. But while you guys spend another 10 pages gloating about the demise of LarBrd33 (in a thread about the demise about Embiid), I'll continue scouring the web trying to get some clarification about what his expected surgery will entail and what the "different CT scan" results actually were showing, and why someone would need surgery if he felt no pain and he didn't re-break anything... so I can add something of actual value to the discussion about Joel Embiid.
My apologies if our previous discussions about Embiid bothered you. I've been wrong before. It happens.
I've never called you a "troll", I don't even use that term. However, I do believe you're a closet Sixers fan. If not, you do a great job pretending.
The Embiid stance you took was a shortsighted one and you only chose to believe what you wanted to believe.
#1 - Unless you're entirely thick, you know by now that I'm not a 76ers fan. Your assumption is that I spent over a decade on Celticsblog... and several years prior on RealGm and the ESPN forums... dating all the way back to the AOL days of 1997 when we could only have 8 characters for our screennames (hence LarBrd33)... all just biding my time and waiting... waiting... so that a couple 3 year olds name Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel could eventually end up on the 76ers and I could tear open my digital Celtic shirt to reveal a 76ers emblem tatoo'd on my chest. You got, me Eddie. You got me.
#2 - The Embiid stance I took was the opposite of short-sighted. It was based on the facts and evidence that everyone had at their disposal. I shared what I knew... and surgery didn't seem to be the most likely end game. The "he needs surgery and his career is over" stance was based on Greg Oden and a couple speculative tweets.
My stance was wrong, but it wasn't wrong because of ignorance. Everything I found suggested that he was ready to play basketball and they wanted it to heal longer. I'm very curious to see what details come out and what this surgery will actually entail. Perhaps the information that was coming out from Hinkie, the 76ers CEO, Embiid, Bill Self and arm-chair doctors following the situation was inaccurate... and that inaccurate information lead to inaccurate assumptions. You're on the winning side of an argument. Your intuition outweighed facts. TP.
Anyways. I woke up at 1:00pm today (Pacific time), looked at my cell phone and saw an alert from the NBA Game Time app:
"Report: 76ers' Joel Embiid will need second surgery on right foot, likely out for 2015-16 season"
First honest reaction: "Wow... that's surprisingly. Why does he need surgery if he feels fine and didn't re-break anything... crazy"
Second honest reaction: "oh god... I bet there's a 5 page thread about me on Celticsblog right now"
Third honest reaction: "Yup, there's the 5 page thread about me on Celticsblog... that's embarrassing"
Fourth honest reaction: "Holy crap it's now 3:44pm. I should get some food and put some pants on... probably not in that order."
So enjoy it, fellas. I'm gonna grab some lunch. Someone PM me when more details about the surgery come out. Thanks.
