Hope he has a better pro career than the other Young the C's drafted in the first round (Michael)....although his son looks great for the Pacers in summer league

He's either gonna be really Good, when he's like 23-24...or he's gonna be out of the league....it could go either way for this young man---he has to stick with it.

So he could turn out to be Good or Bad?

You like what hes done? He hasn't shown me much of anything. He just stands around and misses open 3's. Doesn't know what to do with the ball in his hands and still looks lazy on D. I by no means hate the guy but he isn't passing the eye test. I had high hopes after reading about how he's gained muscle and vert and attacking the rim and yet i see none of that in a summer league where he should almost score at will.

It's called Basketball IQ, he has none. It's what happens when athletic marvels when their young nevery really develop the innate and natural instincts that it takes to make an impact at the highest level

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Lack of consistent effort, and he has no feel for the game. I think he could eventually still be a good player but he is years away.

i don't hate him BUT another great example of a kid who should have stayed in college, he's lost and doesn't appear to be learning
so he either just doesn't get it and never will or about 4 years from now he'll come around, think gerald green

The reason why Celtics fans hate James Young is that they really, really need something to get excited about. James Young might have the highest upside of anything we've got, and he hasn't given us anything to get excited about. That's extremely frustrating.

He doesn't suck. He hasn't given us any reason to lose hope that he'll be a good NBA shooting guard.

But, in all fairness to Marcus Smart who genuinely looks very good, I can't possibly tell you how hungry I am to have that lightning-in-a-bottle, coming-attractions feeling from seeing a young Celtics player do something exciting.

People on here are quick to discount him for some reason. I think it is mostly because they are impatient with his development, they use the argument that he is a professional, and therefor his development should be increasing ten fold the rate it is supposed to. From my point of view he has made great steps, and all that is left is for him to get on the floor and get comfortable and get his confidence up. Once that happens the shots will start falling, and the bandwagon will roll back into place. Even still, he is the youngest kid on our team, rookies included.

I agree. I don't hate him either - that's pretty personal - but I am disappointed. He seems to have a low motor and a questionable bball IQ, and if that's true, his future just looks bleaker than one may have expected. I was most looking forward to his play in SL and hope he does figure it out.

I think for some it is an issue of personal values and liberty. He doesn't seem so akin to freedom, and for an ol fashioned fellow like myself, that is a problem.

I don't hate him.  Hate his lack of versatility which he doesn't seem to care to want to get better at.  I get more annoyed at having to battle the homers in here all the time saying... Give him some time, he's gonna be good, etc, etc.  same type of people you have to argue with about how rondo and green were not beneficial anymore to the team.  At some point you gotta use your eyes and see that it's just not working nor is it going too.

Young needs work in areas that he should already have developed or shown improvement in...work ethic, foot work, and creating his shot.  That's all desire to get better.  He's been in the league two years and still has the same bad habits.  I'm not willing to sit around and watch jeff green 2.0 while other guys lose time on the bench.  Said the same thing about green... Your in the best basketball association in the world, act like that means something to you.  I know he's just a kid but he hasn't shown signs he's able to improve or willing.  Not interested.

He needs to study film of Richard Hamilton and Ray Allen.  That's how you move without the ball. He has a beautiful shot...

One of the quickest ways to the bottom in any sport is to give up too early on kids. We have no idea how Young is going to turn out. Just give it time.

What I'm saying is he STINKS right now at 19----but if he sticks with it, by the time he's 23-24...he'll be good---but I could see teams giving up on him in the next 2 years---he's gotta take the Gerald Green approach if this happens
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.
