With DJ going back to the Clippers, is it possible that McGee reopens talks with the Celtics? Seeing as we might have room for 1 or 2 cheaper players when the contracts are all cleared, it might be wise to bring him in to get some legit shotblocking length and athleticism to add to our frontcourt. We wouldn't be asking him to do much, probably just to play 15-20 minutes of solid basketball a night and play defense. If Stevens can solve some of his boneheadedness in the same fashion as he did for Turner, this could be a steal considering JaVale's athleticism and length at a position of need.

Maybe looking through green-tinted glasses, but a frontcourt of Amir-Sully-Lee-Zeller-McGee could do some serious damage in the East. If Ainge was as high on WCS as everyone said he was, McGee could be a cheaper version of him. Low-risk, high-reward signing IMO.

Wouldn't the Mavs be strong competitors for his services? Do they have the cap room or better financial ability than the Celts?

I think the Mavs have around 20 million in cap space, so they're probably more likely to go after mid-level type guys than the 2 or 3 million per year guys like McGee. They could sign him to fill their gap at center, but McGee and his agent would have a lot more leverage given how the Mavs have been publicly exposed as desperately needing a center now and have the cap room to overpay. I wouldn't be surprised at all if what McGee asks for from the Mavs is just too much.

I actually think the Mavs have the best chance of signing him. He had expressed his intentions to sign with the Clippers due to the dismissal of Jordan, but now that he's back, I can see McGee signing a 2/12 contract.

we still need a shot blocker; even a knuckle headed one will do at this point.

We don't have minutes for him in the current big rotation and I disagree that it's a low risk, high reward signing. There's at least marginal risk involved, haven't seen many signs of increased maturity or player development since his last stint in the NBA. For all the athleticism the BBIQ just isn't there. Wouldn't target him unless terms were very favorable and in no way reduces the current roster flexibility the team has.

We didn't sign him because of disagreements over player and team options. Those contentions are unlikely to have shifted.

Hopefully, Danny will instead continue to focus on acquiring guys who know how to play the game of basketball.
