Yikes. I feel bad for Dallas. Their summer was tied by DJ verbally commiting and bit only did they lose him, they lost any chance of landing someone else because they thought it was a done deal.

There should be a penalty for players who does this. It's unfair for the teams.

Lost all respect for DeAndre.

Coward move.

He's not allowed to change his mind?

He certainly is allowed to change his mind, but, when you've verbally committed to something and back out, that's cowardly.

I would understand if he just entertained talks with the mavs, and decided to go with the clips.
But he committed, and now he backs out. Not a good look for him.

Don't get me wrong, this is awesome for the Celtics, we might get a good pick out of the Mavs.
But I stand by my point.

He didn't even have the decency to tell the Mavs man to man that he's going to back out. If reports Re true that he wasn't even answering his phone calls from the Mavs, not only is he a coward, he's classless.

It'll hurt the agent more than D.Jordan. The agent is only as good as his word. This reflects very badly on him and will make teams nervous about making a commitment to his FAs in the moratorium in the future. Agents are the ones expected to hold the line after the deal has been struck and agreed to. To stop players from backing out. This agent failed.

Scrap the stupid moratorium period so nonsense like this doesn't happen.

Feel bad for Mavericks fans & think even less of the Clippers organization than I had already.

Have fun in your first game against Dallas, DeAndre.

The agent isn't the one who got cold feet. This is on Jordan and the system. It's a flawed system.

So if ainge did the same thing, you wouldnt agree? Jordan reached out to Doc and said he was having 2nd thoughts. The clippers capitalized. What should they have done?

Clips did nothing wrong...they did everything to try to retain Jordan and it worked...if anything, if you REALLY want to blame someone, blame DJ...you don't break verbal agreements like that.

That's like us getting a job offer, saying we'll accept...give our 2 weeks, just to rescind it and stay with your former company for more pay...

you're burning so many bridges

Yeah, I'd still think it'd be a a scumbag thing to do after a player gave his oral commitment to another team.  Instead they came crawling back like scorned lovers looking for another chance.  Trust me, Jordan looks even worse but I wouldn't consider the Clippers absolved of everything in this situation.

Nothing, this is all DeAndre.

You don't verbally commit, and hold the team's other summer plans because they expected you to come, only to renege and basically screwing their summer.

Here's an idea, if you're having second thoughts, don't verbally commit. Take your time and decide after.

In this specific case, it's more like the CEO of a company or the President of a college pulling that stunt.

It's not an unthinkable move, but it's a crappy move to go back on your word like that.

Safest prediction in the NBA right now: The moratorium period will never be the same. Change surely coming because endless fallout awaits

Teams leaguewide that have merely been watching this drama unfold are bound to join Mavs in the protest that surely follows. Because  ...

Because Clips just proved that the system, as it currently operates, actually encourages teams to convince players to renege on their word

There will be fallout from this. If Boston wasn't in the midst of such a disappointing offseason, I'd be a little worried... but I wouldn't be too upset if we just collectively decided on a do-over.

Several GM's solution to changing moratorium: Push back start of free agency until now, once the salary cap numbers are calculated.

That's tricky, though: remember when we did the Pierce + KG trade we were able to do the math in order to generate a massive TPE. That's harder to do without a week's worth of time between talking and free agency.

Jordan looks liked a 4 year old who can't make adult decisions like calling Cuban back and telling him you changed your mind.

However, why is the FA process set up like this? Technically any other FA could do this same thing. Why have these verbal agreements weeks before you actually have to sign?
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
