Story going online now: ESPN sources say Clippers lobbying DeAndre Jordan to reverse his decision to join Dallas and stay in LA with Clips

CHRIS SAVED A SPOT FOR YOU ON THE BANANA BOAT, DEANDRE!!!

It's easy to forget that technically no deals have been signed yet, only verbal agreements.  I doubt it will happen, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities that he could change his mind.  A comp to this is back in the '09 offseason with Hedo Turkoglu, when I'm pretty sure he verbally agreed to a deal with the Blazers and then at the last moment backed out and went to Toronto.

Different players obviously, and Hedo basically dropped off the face of the Earth once he signed that deal, which I don't expect to happen to Jordan...but it's still not technically out of the realm of possibilities that he could change his mind and go back to LA

It happened with us and David West. We had a verbal commitment and then he went to the Pacers.

IRRC the sign and trade between Boston and New Orleans fell apart because we couldn't find anyone to take Jermaine O'Neal. West signed with the Pacers a couple of days later, but we tried to trade for him in December. (edited for clarity)

edit: yup. Links:

And most notably:
http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/7433214/david-west-says-indiana-pacers-were-better-fit-boston-celtics

Quote
"I just felt like (Indiana) was the best opportunity for me right now, in terms of their team and where I was in terms of my career," West said after the morning shootaround. "The fact that they really were the main team that came after me in terms of free agency, that played a big part in it for me."

An unrestricted free agent, West was deciding between a two-year, $20 million deal with the Pacers and a three-year, $29 million contract with the Celtics. From West's point of view, the Celtics' interest in him was "more media than actual substance. I found out just like everybody else did on TV that I was close to signing."

So did the Celtics ever come to his agent and formally make an offer?

"Yeah, there were discussions," West said. "But like I said, I just don't think, in terms of the seriousness of what was going on, people didn't know honestly what was out there for me."

West's decision was a head-scratcher in these parts because Boston is an aging team built to win now, while Indiana is young and talented, but not in the upper-echelon of the Eastern Conference.

"You know, I just think that -- I think everybody's kind of realistic about the window that the Celtics have," West said. "I think, me, looking at where I am, I think my window's a little bit wider. I'm only 31, so I figure with this young team here, in the next few seasons we have the pieces to be able to compete. We've talked about it -- maybe not this year, but definitely in a couple years. In terms of maturity and keeping this core together, the pieces are here to get up there."

After West chose Indiana, Celtics guard Ray Allen questioned his decision as maybe one that was one about money and not with winning in mind. Did those comments rub West the wrong way?

"No. Man, he just didn't know the facts, didn't know all the things that were involved in the situation," West said. "I don't get caught up in stuff like that. It's just one of those things where, when guys don't know all the information that's out there, it was kind of a situation where I think he was being more responsive in terms of just where (the Celtics) were, and some of the situations they were dealing with."

If DeAndre changes his mind and signs with the Clippers it could have some crazy ramifications.

First, I bet Wes Matthews decides it isn't a good idea to sign in Dallas and goes somewhere else.

I'd bet he doesn't since 1) he agreed before DeAndre and 2) no one else is offering him that contract.

Secondly, Marc Cuban has said his team would have tanked (that was the gist he didn't say tank) if they couldn't have signed DeAndre and Wes. So if they leave do we see Dirk and Chandler Parsons traded?

Would you guys have interest in Chandler Parsons? I think he would be perfect for Brad's system.
yeah..but would Cuban want to trade Parsons to the C's? We hold their first round draft pick that's Top 7 protected. A team of Parsons, Matthews and Dirk might not make the playoffs in the West but would be good enough to be out of the Bottom 7.

I think Cuban would be fine trading him to the C's if one of the assets he got back was the Mavs first.

I thought it was David West close to signing with Boston before Larry Bird swoop in and signed him to the Pacers?

In this matter, Jordan has verbally agreed to sign with Dallas. And now he's got second-thoughts and might want to back out.

Important now: Mark Cuban said that if the Mavs didn't get DeAndre Jordan, they were going to tank:

looks like the c's will have to wait on the dallas pick if they tank. Bet they trade Dirk too

Here is the article where he said it. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-mavericks/headlines/20150703-mark-cuban-admits-mavs-would-have-tanked-next-season-if-they-missed-on-premiere-free-agents.ece

Also I'd rather have a top 10 pick in 3 years than the 15-20th pick next year, so them being bad next year is better for us than the Mavs being good.

It would be fun if Houston Rockets decide to swoop in on the drama between the Clippers and the Mavericks, since they're all meeting in Houston territory  ;D
