Players join teams with talent. Boston couldn't even get a meeting with the guys this year like Love, Aldridge, Gasol, etc. Why? Because it's a talentless roster of mediocrity.
Next year, the cap jumps 20 million. Essentially every team in the league will have max money to sign a free agent. That means that teams like Cleveland, Golden State, Clippers, etc will be in the running for any 2016 free agent.
If guys wouldn't take our calls this year, why would they next year? Unless you're suggesting that we're going to try to pull a Miami and lure multiple players at once, I don't see this happening. Our "flexibility" will be useless. People talk about the Amir Johnson contract like it's some kind of brilliant masterstroke... a 1 year deal with the second year non-guaranteed... Teams will be dying to trade for it to clear cap! ... Why? Every team will have cap space. Why would they bother giving up talent to Boston to free up more? It makes no sense.
We had to add talent this year if we stood a chance at being a factor in free agency next year. If we don't pull off some major trades this year, we're going to be in a pretty rough position for a long time.
