Thus far, the poll is suggesting it has been either good or bad.

Like to see they go after Kostas Koufas..not a great player but gives us a legit Center

SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark

Would be hard to create the cap space, plus it doesn't really make sense unless they made a couple of trades to clear room. The Celts have 6 "bigs" at the moment, which is probably more than they need.

I give them a solid B.  No real fireworks but they get that grade because a lot of credit is deserved for doing what they should have done imo which is draft well, keep the guys they have.  They resigned Crowder and Jerebko and added a nice hustle piece in amir johnson. They also kept marcus and drafted players that can help them this year imo.

A big move would have gotten them an A, but overall if those moves weren't there I don't know what people expect anymore.

Solid B so far. It's unfair to grade them on pipe dream scenarios, or to blame the FO for other GM's that were unwilling to trade on draft night. Got to work with the opportunities we have.

First day of free agency and the Celtics signed three low key but solid players to reasonable contracts with a focus on continuity, versatility, character and roster flexibility. Amir is a good player, we're gonna like him. I think we drafted at least 3 intriguing rookies on top of that. The roster overlap isn't the worst problem to have, especially with a coach like Stevens that doesn't think in positions. We're set up to be a better team than last season post-trade deadline, and I fully expect another trade or two in the coming months to sort things out further.

So not a dream start to the offseason, but not a panicky one or one where we're completely left in the cold either. More to come.

"Takes two to tango" is a truism.

That said, how much do we blame Ainge for not closing?

I gave them a solid C for Crap!  Not impressed.

Needed a starting rim protector and a scoring wing IMO.  Got neither.  Instead we have three more guards and two more PF's (counting Jerebko).  Plus, I'm not a Crowder fan and his career 5.8/2.8 stats.

Best off season move was Hunter and he shouldn't have fallen to us.

Danny better have a trade up his sleeve or this off season of fireworks will be misfires!

We should be a rock solid team.  We were pretty solid last year but with growth we should be really rock solid. Ainge is a rock solid GM and the best in the business imo. I'd prefer to look at it like that then stuck in mediocrity.  I think we were mediocre last year.  We should be rock solid this season. and have a chance.

So far?

Bad draft (bad)
Bad start to free agency (bad)
Kicking the can down yet another year (not terrible under the above circumstances)

Seems like a borderline D/F

A for effort. "Incomplete" for results since we haven't even seen the rookies play a summer league game yet.

Bonus points for not committing any cardinal sins like overpaying a FA, giving away future picks without getting star potential in return, or trading our top asset (Smart)...thereby ensuring that we will still be in the mix to make a big move if Danny thinks the price is right.

I would give them a B+ I think alot of people are underrating the Johnson and Jerebko deals.

Not for the players If it was based on them it would be a soild D move but the contract are really an A+ in my book.

Danny is a smart GM he knows no marquee free agent is going to sign here so he signs 2 guys who's second year are not guaranteed so next year he can pull a trade with a team and be able to send 17 million in contracts back in a deal which the receiving teams can just waive.

Its a genius move that I didn't understand myself until I heard the contracts are not guaranteed with those contracts and next years cap room I think his plan is to trade for the 1st big piece and then once they are here hopefully another big name will want to sign with the cap space and then we will be up at the top of the eastern conference.

a pipe dream? Maybe.. but I can see the plan.

It's true, we need to give Ainge credit for not being a nincompoop.  He hasn't done anything outrageous.

I gave him a D, but I should be clear that it's based on my expectations of Ainge, not GMs in general.  Though there just aren't that many Billy Kings / Vlade Divacs in the league anymore.
