Not going to grade something one day into free-agency.

I'm giving them an F.

Draft was underwhelming but way to early to say, in general I'm annoyed they drafted 4 players.

Amir signing IMO is only second to the Aminu signing as far as being the worse deal given so far.

Bringing back and overpaying the players that are average seems stupid, either get better or worse, trying to go .500 is embarrassing.

I give it anice solid C- because the only player we technicallly added was Amir Johnson. Free Agency isnt over yet, I still think its a possibility we clear cap space and go full court press on Monroe if they are still expected to meet today.

I went with a C for several reasons.

The draft was disappointing because they couldn't move up but it's not like Danny can force a team to deal with us. After some time to think on the draft I like their picks and I think they will be good players.

Free agency was again disappointing, but not nearly disappointing as it could have been. Out of the gate it sucked that we couldn't even get any meetings. However, the Knicks and Lakers got meetings with almost everyone and have signed no one. I would have been considerably more disappointed if we got meetings with a lot of players but couldn't sign anyone.

I probably would have preferred we did something similar to what Philly did with their cap space, but at some point having too many picks diminishes their value so I understand not making that move.

Bringing back Crowder and Jerbeko while signing Johnson is a good move. With the non guaranteed second year it essentially gives us the financial flexibility we would have had, had we not signed anyone, it also makes the players we signed very attractive trade chips, thus adding to our asset pool if a quality player becomes available. Still it wasn't as good as I had hoped for.

I honestly don't think tanking was an option next year if we wanted to retain Stevens, so I don't see us selling off our assets. I would rather have Stevens anyway because he seems to be good at developing our assets and thus improving their value.

In the end this gets a C because it is a slight improvement but not what I was hoping for. That being said I expect a trade or two before the season starts that will probably move it from a C to a B.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Right now they have 16 players on the roster..they better make a trade fast cause the big name free agents are getting thin..if not, this is your 2015-16 team,,ugh
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

agreed. instead of rushing to final judgement after a single day, let's wait and see how everything plays out and what ainge actually does. so far, we have learned that ainge, like every GM, lacks omnipotent powers to compel players to sign contracts.

how many of the FA have returned home and spurned other suitors?

how many teams have not faired as well as the celtics so far?

how much will all this change as the off season progresses?

we shall see. but thus far, it seems more a case of the unrealistic expectations of cb posters that are stirring up unhappiness than anything else.

When I look at the graph above at this current moment, it looks like a middle finger being given.  Which is how I feel about this offseason thus far.  Danny currently has, through his own doing, put this team in mediocrity - and that is NBA Hell.  We have no star player, but rather a bunch of role players.  Nobody wants to come to Boston.  And this idea of future cap space is turning into a joke.  The "historically great" franchises mean NOTHING to players anymore.  Tradition won't get quality FA's to come - this isn't the 80's or early 90's.  The Lakers, Knicks, Sixers, Celtics - all proof that the generation I grew up in is OVER.  This is about kissing up to players and showing them how much they'll be coddled and adored.

Danny has a mess of a roster that still is devoid of shooting (unless Young propels into maturity and Hunter can play as a rookie).  We have so many point guards - I don't get that, and I wonder what Smart must really be thinking deep down.  Bradley stinks as a starter - he's a 3rd/combo guard off the bench at best.  We really don't have what I would call a starting small forward - and I don't consider Crowder or Turner one...his best play came when he was a bench player, not a starter.  Olynyk and Sullinger are nice players on a roster, but neither of them are dominant.

So the best chips the Celtics have to trade are the big trade exception from the Rondo deal.  And then Smart and possibly Sullinger.  Possibly Wallace's deal.

So Danny has to get creative and develop a roster that Brad can settle on...and we'll yet again be fighting for that 6-8 seed with no hope of anything close to contending.  I get it takes time...but I don't think much will change over the next few short years.  Danny's idea of wanting everyone to take his pile of mediocre draft slots for a top lottery pick has backfired.  He used his cap space on an Olynyk clone (Jerebko) and a Sullinger clone (Amir Johnson).  I find this all disheartening, and I'm considering not renewing my NBA League Pass package - it won't really be all that different to watch from last season if nothing much changes.

I gave him a "D" for what he's done thus far...

A solid B.  It seems like they tried in a number of ways to go for fireworks, but the opportunities didn't present themselves.  At the end, they made solid draft picks and didn't make any panic moves.  The team now is better than the team that finished last season, and there are no long-term commitments that get in the way of future attempts at the home run.

D.

Signing Amir Johnson to that contract, in a vacuum, is a solid move.

Re-signing Crowder and Jerebko, both also solid moves for fair money.

The trouble is that this is not a vacuum.

I'm not as sure as some people that Amir Johnson will really make the Celts much better than they were with Bass.  I also don't see, as of now, why the Celts needed to pay $5 million to retain Jerebko, who's lined up as the 3rd or 4th string power forward, depending on how you set up the depth chart.

Failing a major move in the draft or free agency, I wanted Ainge to make a move or two similar to what Philly did yesterday -- utilize cap space to acquire future value from other teams in return for absorbing contracts.

Bottom line, I guess my #1 hope was that the draft and / or free agency would bring some clarity and focus to the roster; failing that, I was hoping Ainge would make some creative moves to continue to improve the team's position.

Instead, it appears that Ainge and Co. decided to simply preserve the status quo and punt on next season.  The Celts likely won't be bad enough to get a top 10 pick, nor good enough to rise higher than they did this past year.

Where does that leave me as a fan?  Disappointed.  Feeling foolish for expecting more, for assuming Ainge was cleverer, and bolder, than that.

After the Kings ****show today, after the money DeMarre Carol got...people.

Made the most out of the cap jump, didn't make trades he'll regret.

It takes two to tangle.

Ultimate cheapskate GM'ing. Feeling like the pre-Harden Rockets now. We got the culture thing down, too.

Don't cut your nose off to spite the face. Don't trade all your firsts for a 9th pick. Don't be irrational! Keep calm and keep rolling.

Well done, Ainge. You get a "B".

Couldn't care less if Ainge tried hard; he couldn't close. Therefore, because of his failure, we're stuck with four underwhelming draft choices, and a squad replete with role players.

All things considered, probably a B-.

None of the big name free agents were ever really coming here.  All of the players who were expected to re-sign with their current teams did just that (Butler, Leonard, Middleton, etc.).  The other big names were never in play for Boston from the start (Love, Aldridge).  I never got the sense that Monroe was heavily considering the C's either.  Reports indicated Orlando will match on Harris.

Danny didn't make a splash on draft night either, but not for a lack of trying.  He just couldn't find a trade partner without having to overpay significantly.  Can't fault him for that.

I'm OK, not thrilled, with the draft.  Solid signings in Crowder, Jerebko, and Johnson.  So B-.

I gave them a C. I like resigned Crowder and signing Amir to a great contract. Yeah obviously I'd like them to trade for Cousins and sign Love and assemble a new dream team but lets get real that will not happen.
