Hopefully this is where we make some trades fix the roster up and sign Harris. I Wouldn't mind a rotation of sully and Amir at pf. They complement each other lets just use Rozier and olynk to nab a center and even out the roster.

On the worrying side, it looked like Amir might have been slowing down last year.

I hope that is not the case and he was just battling injuries. That he will be back to his best next season. Because this is really going to bite if he is on the downward slope and sliding fast.

I spoke to the same concerns last night. I am glad it's a two year deal.

Please tell me that trade exception is involved.

Anyone else p---ed off about this signing?

I'm at least ... perplexed.

Signing Amir to such a huge deal signals that the team does not expect to be much of a player in the free agent market.  Not a great surprise.

But it means that despite not being a major player, the team is willing to spend money on stop-gap options that will keep the team closer to the middle.

Settling for mediocrity does not make me happy at all.  Go big or jettison the extras and let the young guys play.

Instead we're spending $12 million per year to replace Bass with a slightly taller guy who is worse offensively and slightly better defensively.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Celtics must believe Johnson can play the 5 full time in today's smaller, quicker NBA.
I think so. I think he is an upgrade as a defender & rebounder over T.Zeller. I think Amir should start at center and Zeller should be the backup center. Both guys are superb cutting to the basket and rolling to the rim in PnRs.

I'd agree. If we keep Sully, I like him next to Johnson more than I like him next to Zeller.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Too much per year for Johnson IMO.

I wouldn't pay Amir Johnson 24 million for 12 years.  Worst off season ever!  Stay hot Danny!

If the reports on the money are accurate, Johnson would fit into the Rondo TPE.

That's what I'm hoping for.  I think this was a short-term overpay to maintain long-term flexibility.  But I really hope this isn't where most of our current cap space is going.

Felger was asking the other day if we should be talking about Ainge being on the hot seat. At the time I thought it was a bit much. And today I think it's a good question.

And Ainge needs to tell the owner "Don't ever promise stuff like fireworks again. This is Boston. It's hard just to make fire here. Ever try to make fire in 20 feet of snow? NBA players saw that snow and didnt like it. We aren't NYC"

Avery and IT look like phenomenal contracts now.

This is a giant "We don't believe in you" aimed at Sully.

Maybe this contract works if Amir is the first big off the bench and plays a lot at both forward spots
