Yikes. The enemy has already made big splashes in the offseason while Ainge is just sitting there. ::)

But looks like Jimmy Butler is out of the option now.

Do some signings already, Danny!

It says Bulls are matching everything, so no Lakers success yet. Though it would be too sweet if he spends an year with the Lakers and goes somewhere else afterwards.

He can't sign a one year deal as a restricted. Can he?

I thought it had to be a 3 years minimum.

Doubtful, since outside teams can't sign restricted free agents to one year deals under the CBA.

Opposing teams must offer 2 years for all restricted free agent.  It's 3 years if the Bulls make Butler a max offer.

I'm quite sure the Lakers or ANY other team would be most happy to offer Butler as many max years as he likes!

Yeah I'm sure DA is just sitting there letting teams sing players(which they can't for a couple more days, or even talk to) and hoping they just fall into his lap.

Right now we know that Monroe and Harris should be meeting with the C's, probably Love too. You also forget he's gotta make some trades to open roster spots for new players. He's gotta get everything lined up for these FA proposals and signings. The mans can only do so much at one time.

A little patience goes a long way, now if this was end of September, then we should start worrying.

This should be fun to watch, Lakers haven't been the "go to" team since DH12 kissed them good bye and Kobe is a black hole on that team as a player and contract.

Yep, and that's what they'll do.

They'll offer a crap ton of money... it'll be very tough (and idiotic honestly) for Butler to leave all that money on the table, particularly in his first contact.

This is not LeBron who can get a Max contract any year he wants even after down/injury plagued seasons.

This is a rumor, and likely impossible under the CBA as others have noticed.

Also, we can't "do any signings" until July 1st (technically they can't be signed until I believe the 8th but they can be agreed on earlier).

Buds, Roy was refering to a max qualifying offer... not a max offer. Not quite sure the $ diff other than it changes, as Roy says, the length of a deal another team has to offer a restricted FA.

Either way the Bulls are matching, so it's all moot.

The best Butler can probably do is encourage CHI to look for a sign-and-trade, though few RFA hasve been succesful using that to exit their current team...

This will not happen. A restricted free agent signing a one year deal makes no sense for anyone.

I know what it meant, I think the Bulls or whomever are going to offer him a crap ton of money. And I think Butler will be foolish not to go for that in favor of a one year deal just to have the freedom to choose.

For example, if the Bulls have a max QO, the choice for Butler will be to sign the long deal, sign a 3-year deal with another team (which the Bulls will match), or negotiate a 1 year deal with the Bulls, which will probably not be for a lot of money (Bulls are not going to finance a one-year deal just for you to leave us the next year).

So, Butler has three options: Sign a 3 year offer sheet with another team so Bull will match, accept the Bulls long contract, or take the QO for one year and leave a lot of money on the table and risk injury while doing so.
