We can't sign both Harris and Monroe.

Dump Wallace or Dump Turner and stretch Wallace, yes you can. And those are two of the simplest solutions.

Of course, S&T possibilities exists as well.

You can't just dump players and their salaries that affect the cap go away. Do you think Wallace would still be on the team if they could dump his 11+ million and get it off the books? Wow!

First, I gave two options... one that included stretching Wallace.

Secondly, it's a matter of the value of compensation. There's ZERO reason for the Celtics to try and dump Wallace's salary until it's actually needed. That he's still on our roster is not evidence that Ainge is not capable of dumping him, there's a price to everything.

And as I said, even then, the solution might not need be dumping Wallace, but dumping a lower salary and then stretching Wallace, though not the preferred course of action. But if the gain is Monroe + Harris you do it without batting an eye.

You can get a team to take him for a draft pick.  Happens all the time.  Have you not seen what Hinkie has done?  It is how we got Zeller.  We gave the Cavs players with non guaranteed deals, they gave us Zeller, the cut the guys and were able to sign Lebron.  Happens every year, surprised you haven't noticed.

Explain to me what "stretching Wallace" means.

The only value we have with Wallace is his huge "expiring contract" which will be valuable after this season for us or for whoever we can send him to.

I would like Monroe especially & Harris if possible but dumping guys is not the way to do it. You need to trade them or let their contracts expire. If we dump Wallace I am sure he will retire because nobody wants to pick up part of that salary AND it doesn't take it off our books. He's a really good locker room guy - always gives 100% when he's asked to play but I think we will have to live with him for this season OR trade him late in the season to a team that needs the salary for next year's free agent signings.

Stretching Wallace means that he's waived and his salary is streched for 3 seasons. So the cap hit this year would be of around $3 million, so it opens up about $7 million of cap space.

A 50 win team in the East?  Probably.  A title contender.  Too young and still don't have a franchise player.  Give it another 2 years, though...

Wallace's contract is going to be very valuable to trade during the season, I doubt it is stretched.

Let's see - 10 MORE wins than last year with that miraculous finish they had and against almost all teams improving. I don't see it unless there are some big additions "BIG". We aren't going to improve by that much with a team of 6'7" and under. We could possibly win less games. I hate it and want to improve but I don't see it.

Again, you don't stretch him for the sake of stretching him. You stretch him if you need to, for example, if you're set to sign Harris and Monroe if that is of interest...

Can we stretch him for 11 years for a cost of about a million a year and then we throw him a 50th birthday party retirement?

I don't know if the team can play as well next season as they did to end last season, but add Harris and Monroe and there's no way Boston starts as poorly as they did last year.  Remember, this was looking to be a 25 win team before Rondo and Green were shipped out.

The rule is time 2 the remaining contract years + 1, so for Wallace who only has 1 year remaining it becomes 3 years.

I was thinking along the lines of Kevin Love, and Robin Lopez.

PF-Love, KO, Mickey
C-Lopez, Zeller
SF-Crowder, Young, (player from trading Sully & Turner)
PG-Smart, IT, Rosier
SG-Bradley, Young, Smart, Hunter

Wyc said they could sign two max players this season on draft night, which means they must have a plan to free up some money, or there is a deal lined up already for him to say that....

Or he's doing a "fireworks" thing again and putting DA in the spotlight.

I would definitely keep Wallace as is until he has value.

I hope we spend as much as it takes to get Harris and if there's anything else good to grab in FA, cool, but no one else that I believe we can actually get jumps out at me.  I don't want to sign a guy like Hibbert or Monroe or Robin Lopez and not improve enough.

I think Harris is a perfect fit and worth getting at 22 for a healthy salary and after that I'm fine if we don't really make any other moves for now.  Wait for something to develop.
