Harris is a SF and he's 22... he averages 17 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1 steal on 46%/36%/79% shooting.  Using the "max" for him would make sense.  Looks like Danny is desperate to get a SF here.  We supposedly were offering 4 draft picks to move up to #9 to take Winslow.   Harris is a restricted free agent.  Can they work out a sign-and-trade with restricted free agents?  Move Bradley + Wallace for him or something?

Harris would make sense.  He's the kind of second-tier star you have to give max money to if you strike out on the big names... he fits with the young core.  You can't look at max contracts the same way you did previously.  With the cap jumping 20 mil next year and 20 mil the year after, you need to do everything possible to get talent here and become an attractive destination for other free agents.

All good points.  Btw, what would a 'max' contract be for him at this point?

Near max for Tobias Harris... no thanks.

Is Harris ALL that much better than Sully ?    If he was would they really want to get rid of him?

A healthy skinny Sully is nearly as good .......but I admit chances of him staying in shape is slim ( no pun intended)

No way you max him.....would you pay that much for,Sully ?    He only slightly better than Sully  IMO.

Why does Danny chase PF and guard s. lol like crazy ..........we need a big Center to put ahead of Zellar that can defend the paint against monsters like LeBron

Harris plays sf ::)

Seriously the kid is 6'9 and 22 years old.  What the heck is wrong with some of you not wanting this guy?  He's a need area until/if young ever works out

I think in the ballpark of 15-16 million.

At this point I'm desperate to sign for B-level talent with max money since superstars/all-stars ain't walking through the door in Boston.  ::)

I'm all for Harris with the max.

Well at the very least, he is probably more suited to a starting role than Crowder (who I like a lot). Having him + Jae off the bench could be a decent combo.

Grab Harris and Monroe and call it an off-season (unless Cousins becomes available).

That would be even better than my Harris and Lopez plan, except Monroe will command a max contract as well, and the C's don't currently have room for two of those.

I'd be disappointed if our target was a max deal for him. Given the only times I watch the Magic is against us but I'm under whelmed by him. Above average talent in the NBA, this would be a lateral move for us talent wise and a negative move salary wise if he got the max.

Who the hell in this current team is above average?  Name one!  Maybe IT, that's it!

So can the Celtics negotiate a sign and trade with the Magic?

Why though? We have the cap space to sign him outright.

He's a restricted free agent, so a sign-and-trade means the Magic won't match an offer sheet.

They just drafted Hezonja so I don't see them matching.

I see them matching with the intention of trading one or other in a year or two.  Only stupid GMs are afraid to have multiple above-average players at a position on their roster.

If Harris isn't good enough for the Magic to match and trade him later instead of losing him for nothing, then maybe he's not good enough to throw a max contract at.
So the Cs shouldn't offer him the max, because if Orlando matches its a waste of time, and if Orlando doesn't match it means he isn't worth it?
Celtics fan for life.

hooray another wing that doesn't make Boston a contender and uses cap room unnecessarily.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I wonder if we could S&T and somehow include Wallace in this deal with some sweeteners?

After we dump Wallace, we will.

Nobody that's my point, we need to get a (prefer 2) All-Star level talent players, more average players doesn't help IMO.

Harris isn't that much better than Crowder to deserve any salary near the max.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

If Orlando doesn't match a max offer, them thinking it is a massive overpay is a better explanation of their inaction than them not caring because they have Hezonja.  That is independent of their ability to accurately evaluate the value of Harris and Hezonja.  They could think it is an overpay but be wrong.  They could correct think a max contract is an overpay, but they could still be wrong about why it is.

I hope so. If we could ditch Wallace and pick up a binkie of mine I'd be ecstatic.
