So can the Celtics negotiate a sign and trade with the Magic?

Why though? We have the cap space to sign him outright.

He's a restricted free agent, so a sign-and-trade means the Magic won't match an offer sheet.

I think the fact that the salary cap is going to go up plays a factor in signing him as well. Even if we sign him to a max deal, it might end up looking like a bargain.

They just drafted Hezonja so I don't see them matching.

I'd be disappointed if our target was a max deal for him. Given the only times I watch the Magic is against us but I'm under whelmed by him. Above average talent in the NBA, this would be a lateral move for us talent wise and a negative move salary wise if he got the max.

Grab Harris and Monroe and call it an off-season (unless Cousins becomes available).

Ugh. I'd be very disappointed if we give Harris max money.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders who is pretty tied into ORL in particular said in a chat or podcast that there were eastern conference teams in the playoffs with lots of cap who were interested in Harris.  When he said that combination of terms my thought went to Danny and our need for 3 point shooting.

Getting him at the max before the cap spikes will make his contract reasonable in Kyler's opinion and he thought ORL should max, but may not.

Is Harris ALL that much better than Sully ?    If he was would they really want to get rid of him?

A healthy skinny Sully is nearly as good .......but I admit chances of him staying in shape is slim ( no pun intended)

No way you max him.....would you pay that much for,Sully ?    He only slightly better than Sully  IMO.

Why does Danny chase PF and guard s. lol like crazy ..........we need a big Center to put ahead of Zellar that can defend the paint against monsters like LeBron

This wouldn't be a bad move.
The Cs are not gonna be a legit destination for FAs like LMA, so, they'll need to go down a level, and target someone like T. Harris.
Celtics fan for life.

You never know though. Harris is a talented player.

I see them matching with the intention of trading one or other in a year or two.  Only stupid GMs are afraid to have multiple above-average players at a position on their roster.

If Harris isn't good enough for the Magic to match and trade him later instead of losing him for nothing, then maybe he's not good enough to throw a max contract at.

Harris is a SF and he's 22... he averages 17 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1 steal on 46%/36%/79% shooting.  Using the "max" for him would make sense.  Looks like Danny is desperate to get a SF here.  We supposedly were offering 4 draft picks to move up to #9 to take Winslow.   Harris is a restricted free agent.  Can they work out a sign-and-trade with restricted free agents?  Move Bradley + Wallace for him or something?

Harris would make sense.  He's the kind of second-tier star you have to give max money to if you strike out on the big names... he fits with the young core.  You can't look at max contracts the same way you did previously.  With the cap jumping 20 mil next year and 20 mil the year after, you need to do everything possible to get talent here and become an attractive destination for other free agents.

I admit I hardly ever watch the Magic.  Is Harris a very good def player?  He put up more shots and is a better 3ball shooter than Sully, but he is listed as a small forward.  So is he really a Jeff Green replacement?  I dunno.

The magic have been pretty bad.  He put up good numbers on a pretty bad team.
