I don't get why there is so much anger. Picking that late in the draft you're just hoping to get anybody competent, forget about need or positional redundancy. It's not like anybody on the roster now is a world beater who couldn't be replaced anyway.

A lot of it's about the team not keeping its collective mouth shut.  When you set people up with talks of fireworks and trading up, and then you stand pat and start reaching for players that are redundancies, you're going to get hammered.

Stand pat?

A trade needs two willing parties.

How on earth do you know what Danny tried to get done tonight?

Go back and re-read what I've written.  You seem to have missed the point.

Feel really stupid about my earlier, emotionally reactive posts this evening. I apologize.

Embarrassingly, DA proved me wrong by selecting a PG at 45. Fills a major need.

Don't sweat it. I've been there plenty of times, as I'm sure many other have as well. This is what happens when there are a thousand reporters saying Boston will surely do something big, and Celtics brass have talked about "fireworks," and then they draft a guy who (as far as I can remember) was not mentioned on these forums even ONCE as a possible pick.

Check I would have been happy with Turner. So sick of the "fireworks" talk. It just sets people up for disappointment.

Yeah.  Under-promise and over-deliver.  Not the other way around.

Did the celtics promise fireworks this year?

They put it out in the media HARD that they were aggressively trying to trade up in this draft.

I'm just tired of the pronouncements about trades and free agent signings and what not.  Walk soft and carry a big stick.  Stop grabbing your package and acting like you're a bunch of wheeling and dealing gangsters.  Show us results.  Better yet, show us some clear direction.  Having a plan that's clear, effective, and impressive is a lot better than making a lot of noise and even making moves but not really getting anywhere.

We're two years into this rebuild and I'm not sure what the plan is other than "Keep shuffling pieces around, increasing the quantity of assets, and wait for a fantastically dumb GM to let you bamboozle them."

Gradually developing feelings for you (sorry, keep trying to push them aside). Agree 100% with your perspective.

Just because you don't know the plan doesn't there is one. How do you know that Anige wasn't trying hard to move up. It takes two parties to listen and they probably wanted assets that Anige didn't want to give up.

Isn't it a common refrain on this forum that Danny Ainge lies?

I had a least some suspicion that Ainge was more interested in trading down than in trading up unless a couple of specific players fell.

Yeah, you shouldn't believe EVERYTHING he says.

Danny was in a tough spot heading into this draft.  One of the least talented rosters in the league somehow fights its way to the 7th seed in a terrible conference.  The difference between picking 9th or 10th and picking 16th, in a draft that everybody thought was probably 11 or 12 players deep, at most.

Tried very hard to get into the top 10, where history tells us the real difference makers are selected.  Nobody was biting.  Turns out its hard to make a trade to change the direction of your franchise when all you've got to trade is bench players and picks likely to end up in the middle of the first round.  Really tough to trade donkeys and ponies for real thoroughbred horses, and this team desperately lacks horses.

So, failing a trade up, what did Danny do at #16?  He took exactly the kind of player he knows he can scout and not end up with a dud.  A defense first undersized combo guard with a questionable jumper.  Fantastic.  Another safe pick from Danny, a GM who is alleged to have such balls when it comes to trades, but is all about safety when it comes to the draft.  Then at 28, you take an alleged shooter who was an unreliable shooter in college.  Best case scenario, he's fighting for the exact same role that James Young is trying to fill.

I think the bottom line is that this was a fantastically shallow draft, and Danny Ainge was never in a position to finish tonight in a better spot than he started it.  But dang.  How disappointing.

Oh, you poor baby, did you have a bad draft night???  I really feel for you guys that watch basketball one night a year because you can't stand to watch the likes of the lowly Celtics during the year. watch the upcoming trade machine.  year 15/16, be there!!!!

Is it any different than calling people who liked the draft picks, delusional or a blind Danny fan.

I watch all the Celtics games and a lot of NBA games and I thought DesertDweller acted like an ass by assuming that wasn't the case. There isn't even much to like about this draft anyway so I don't understand the anger at people that didn't like the draft. I mean as of now it looks like a very bad draft. I mean DesertDweller said poor baby and stuff lol

This. Agreeing with everything someone does is blind loyalty. I'm usually a huge Ainge fan but he blew it today

So confused.. why are you being combative? We failed to move up when many thought we would, and more importantly, made a garbage pick at 16. How/why is that hard to process? I don't understand, but I'm sure with all your knowledge about the draft/bball that you can clarify for us. Specifically, please address why Rozier was a good pick... anything else, if you can come up with something, would be Upshaw-sweetener.

When is the last time College stats directly translated to the NBA outside of the top 5? I feel like we should stop thinking anything translates other then competitiveness and work ethic. All these guys are freaks.

The whining needs to stop. None of y'all are GM's for a reason.

Some of these guys will be studs because their confidence allows them to, because their mentality has an opportunity to grow in a conducive environment. The little brother syndrome needs to go.
