Danny was in a tough spot heading into this draft.  One of the least talented rosters in the league somehow fights its way to the 7th seed in a terrible conference.  The difference between picking 9th or 10th and picking 16th, in a draft that everybody thought was probably 11 or 12 players deep, at most.

Tried very hard to get into the top 10, where history tells us the real difference makers are selected.  Nobody was biting.  Turns out its hard to make a trade to change the direction of your franchise when all you've got to trade is bench players and picks likely to end up in the middle of the first round.  Really tough to trade donkeys and ponies for real thoroughbred horses, and this team desperately lacks horses.

So, failing a trade up, what did Danny do at #16?  He took exactly the kind of player he knows he can scout and not end up with a dud.  A defense first undersized combo guard with a questionable jumper.  Fantastic.  Another safe pick from Danny, a GM who is alleged to have such balls when it comes to trades, but is all about safety when it comes to the draft.  Then at 28, you take an alleged shooter who was an unreliable shooter in college.  Best case scenario, he's fighting for the exact same role that James Young is trying to fill.

I think the bottom line is that this was a fantastically shallow draft, and Danny Ainge was never in a position to finish tonight in a better spot than he started it.  But dang.  How disappointing.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Its like a lame version of last years draft.

Think about it. First, we get a defensive guard whose not a particularly good shooters. Then we pick a guy whose supposedly good shooter who shot a horrid percentage in college. Great. Just great ::)

Ainge knows a lot more about basketball than you give him credit for.    I think he cleaned up.  Hunter is one of the best shooters in the draft and should have gone earlier.  Rozier is a really athletic scorer/combo guard and is going to be a very good player as well.

Wow.... I never thought you of all people would make an emotionally filled post. Maybe the teams were asking too much for what Danny wanted. Besides I think he took a risk on taking a defense first guy rather playing it safe and taking Sam Dekker (though I like him.) I think it's way too soon to say he choked.

Idk man a draft where Winslow and Turner went 10 and 11 looks pretty deep to me. We just screwed this off season up with our playoff run. I think the FO thought with all their picks they could always move up and they were wrong. We had no business making the playoffs period and now our off season is a disaster. We're not going to.get any FAs that will move the needle. Trades are going to be extremely hard obviously. There is no way in hizell the FO.thought they were walking away with Rozier as their key pick tonight..

I just can't find how people can rationalize the rozier pick. Hunter I like though.

There has to be a trade, they just drafted another 2 guard.

Where are they going to play? No...there has to be a trade coming, or planned.

They now have Smart, Bradley, Young, and Hunter as shooting guards, don't forget Turner is a guard too.

Rosier, IT, and Smart as PG's

Another shoe has to drop.

Pro sht is right

The sum of all our assets is not really worth a lot , if those aren't top five lottery picks ......

It's a bunch of. Role player level picks ......

Danny is screwing up big time .

We have no way left to get top three type players ......we have no center ...no hope of getting a Healthy one of top calibre .

I pretty sick of DA ..not using everything to get a better center.

It's been nearly ten years and we don't even have ONE star player  ::)

Ainge will just continue to collect assets and hope something comes along. C's need a piece this season before the salary cap goes up. It's anyone's guess what happens because the C's will need a lot of luck. Something they haven't had in a long time which is evident by today.

Hozier was projected in the 2nd round in some of the mocks I read.   He's been a Celtic for about an hour... I imagine a lot of people here now think he's untradeable.  Lol.

It was a bust of a draft.  No doubt.   Wouldn't Hozier have been three at #28?  Why not just trade down?  Do something?  There's no way to look at this as a success... but perhaps with time we'll learn to love our back-up back-up back-up point guard.

It's funny... I made threads this offseason.  One where I suggested trading #16 for Anthony Bennett.  Another where I suggested trading #16 for Nik Stauskas.   Reaction was pretty negative.  How confident are you guys that Hozier is going to have a better career than either of those guys??

As predicted, Ainge strikes out again:

Well then by all means so GM a team yourself since it is so incredibly easy, apparently.

This board is  joke right now.

It's always funny when Soap watchers get upset at things happening on the show as if it's real. And I really laugh when fans get caught up in things they think/hope happens in the off season, and when it doesn't, they're upset.

Do what I do... Sit back and wait, and then after the off season is over, then you can criticize.
Just because you draft a top 3 pick and give up everyone on your team to do it, does not mean that pick will pan out. Heck, the greatest player in the world "allegedly" could not take Cleveland anywhere at all, he needed to go to Miami with 3 other all-world players to get championships.
