Celtics fans are the whiniest people on the internet.
Let's wait and see how things pan out.
We still have tons of first round picks.
And IT counts as part of this draft.

I don't get why there is so much anger. Picking that late in the draft you're just hoping to get anybody competent, forget about need or positional redundancy. It's not like anybody on the roster now is a world beater who couldn't be replaced anyway.

A lot of it's about the team not keeping its collective mouth shut.  When you set people up with talks of fireworks and trading up, and then you stand pat and start reaching for players that are redundancies, you're going to get hammered.

Personally, at 16 I would've liked Bobby Portis.

An athletic power forward that has a mid range shot, can rebound and defend.

I hate the Rozier pick so much I can't even describe in words.

I do like getting RJ Hunter at 28 as I think he'll be a lot better than James Young.

It was a very bad draft by the Celtics. And I am usually a huge Ainge supporter.

Yeah.  Under-promise and over-deliver.  Not the other way around.

Feel really stupid about my earlier, emotionally reactive posts this evening. I apologize.

Embarrassingly, DA proved me wrong by selecting a PG at 45. Fills a major need.

Don't sweat it. I've been there plenty of times, as I'm sure many other have as well. This is what happens when there are a thousand reporters saying Boston will surely do something big, and Celtics brass have talked about "fireworks," and then they draft a guy who (as far as I can remember) was not mentioned on these forums even ONCE as a possible pick.

On the other hand not attempting to make moves is irresponsible.  Is it really possible to keep attempts at moving a secret?  Also, I think it's good policy to be active during the draft because at times it forces other teams to react.  Does anyone else feel like the Lakers sudden interest in Cousins relates to Danny's (reported) constant pursuit or at least interest?  Danny may really like Cousins, but he also might be pleased to see the Lakers give up too much for him in an attempt to stop the Celitcs from getting him or, more pathetically because they know Danny is smart and are simply copying him.

i like RJ Hunter and think jordan mickey is ok but there were still a few guys that ainge could have picked over him at that position

terry rozier was a major reach
we could probably have had him at 28

dont like marcus thornton

this draft was a major disappointment for me
i knew ainge wasnt going to be able to draft up but his choices werent good

also with all these guards does this mean ainge potentially moves thomas and bradley
in order to get younger and trade for more assets or a good player
thornton probably isnt on the roster but hunter, rozier and mickey can potentially make the roster

Did the celtics promise fireworks this year?

Everyone from #4 on down has question marks.  And a lot of these guys who got hyped tonight are going be called major busts a year from now.   It cracks me up how people get bent out of shape after about 2 weeks of learning about these guys.  And anyone who thought this rebuild thing was going to be quick, think again.

Just looking at this dispassionately, I think Ainge decided that you're better off buying somewhat more proven front court commodities at market free agent prices vs speculating on draftees you don't entirely believe in.  He did say tonight that they would address the front court in free agency.  I don't think that means star level talent because none are going to want to sign here.  The Robin Lopez types might be more what he has in mind.

Make all the attempts you want.  Just keep your mouth shut while doing it.  Why give ammo to opposing teams, or needlessly p--- off your fans?  If you want to spook other teams, you can always go the 'anonymous team sources' route.

It's kind of hard to do that, when other teams keep seeing you making attempts.

They put it out in the media HARD that they were aggressively trying to trade up in this draft.

I'm just tired of the pronouncements about trades and free agent signings and what not.  Walk soft and carry a big stick.  Stop grabbing your package and acting like you're a bunch of wheeling and dealing gangsters.  Show us results.  Better yet, show us some clear direction.  Having a plan that's clear, effective, and impressive is a lot better than making a lot of noise and even making moves but not really getting anywhere.

We're two years into this rebuild and I'm not sure what the plan is other than "Keep shuffling pieces around, increasing the quantity of assets, and wait for a fantastically dumb GM to let you bamboozle them."

It's not hard at all.  It's incredibly easy.  Just ask the Patriots.

Stand pat?

A trade needs two willing parties.

How on earth do you know what Danny tried to get done tonight?
