so does this in essence signal that we AREN'T going to be going in on any TOP TIER FAs? Is Ainge waiving the white flag stating that Aldridge, Monroe, Love will not be coming here to Boston? if so that means we've have another young team and unless we can snag a legit scorer then we still are 2nd tier in the EC behind Cavs, Miami(when healthy), Toronto, and Wiz

I'd rather have Winslow. Okafor is a great prospect, and he's a favorite to win ROY, but he doesn't protect the rim and doesn't score outside the paint.

I agree with this. Actually, if the Celtics end up getting the third pick id take Winslow or Porzingiz over him. Both of those guys are light years more versatile than Okafor. If Porzingiz played in the NCAA last year then the Wolves would be tearing their hair out trying to decide between him and Towns.

I don't see this taking more than Smart + one of our many mid-late first rounders.

I'm skeptical because I see Okafor as only a slightly better prospect than Smart, but if Ainge is high enough on Okafor that he's willing to do this I guess I'm on board.

The question is whether Philly would want to do this. I can see them not wanting another big, but they'd have to prefer Smart + an asset over whichever of Russel or Mudiay is still on the board.

Great words from a great man

it either that signals that philly wants Russell... Or that Boston is absolutely desperate to get cousins.... Depending on which team leaked this trade offer that will never happen (since the lakers are takin Okafor).

And just because Boston is prepared to make an offer doesn't mean philly is prepared to take it... Or that Okafor will even be the big that philly decides to move in this imaginary scenario where Okafor falls to them.

Honestly the only shot the Celtics have is trading for the knicks 4th pick since that franchise is a trainwreck

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Okafor will be the best player from this draft.  He's the best low post scorer since probably Duncan.  He averaged 17.4 ppg on 66.4% shooting.  It seems everyone is treating him like a finished product as if he can't improve his weaknesses while projecting on the other prospects.

OooOo, intriguing. So when Okafor (who isn't slipping to 3 since the Lakers are taking him for the kings) slips to 3, the celtics are prepared to send a monster trade offer for him!! Awesome!  I wonder if Philly is already prepared to decline the hypothetical monster trade offer that will never come since the lakers are taking Okafor for the Kings?... I can't wait to not see this scenario play out.

More posturing. Philly wants Russell and doesn't want the lakers messing with them by taking Russell and trading down to 4.

Is there something you can do with your time that you honestly enjoy, rather than scraping whatever meager satisfaction you do from loitering around here?

The Lakers-Kings deal would appear to kill this but that does not seem like a done deal.  It makes a lot of sense for both team to me but who knows.  Lakers are now leaking they plan to take Russell.  No rumor is every likely so if the Lakers take Russell and a million other stars align, we get Okafor.  I am OK with that assuming we don't sell out too much.

Agree 100%. towns is a helluva a player as well... but this will be Duncan 2.0... instead you see clowns on here talking about porzingis and iwnslow? I guess if people have enough time they will talk themselves into anything... he Is all star level on offense.. his defense will be fine...

I think Okafor was the consensus #1 for so long that it gave people too much time to overanalyze him and pick him apart.  People also fall too much in love with athleticism.

I wonder if NYK would consider Sullinger + Bradley + 16 + BKN pick for Calderon + 4?

You may be right or not, but there is no reason to call other posters clowns for posting their honest opinions of players. The forum rules call for a minimal level of respect.

I'd love to get Okafor.  This isn't happening.

I agree, if he does indeed fall to 3 and Philly are willing to deal with us, I'd pull the trigger. I wish Smart is not included though

Smart and Okafor are nice building blocks for the future, but if it takes Smart to get the deal done, then we have no choice

This must mean embiid is gonna be fine if philly is even somewhat considering this.
