Per RealGM (Windhorst) The Boston Celtics are prepared to send a significant trade package to the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 3 if Jahlil Okafor slips.

Okafor is in play for both the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 1 and particularly the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 3. (I think he means 2 here)

The Celtics have a considerable numbers of assets to make trading up viable.

I would be infuriated if we gave up Snart to get Okafor. I know many will disagree but i see Smarts ceiling as much higher.
I disagree.

worked out as in - if Okafor slips to 3, trigger is pulled?

if so, I am praying Smart isn't in the deal

Bert Breer Tweet:

Wow ... @WindhorstESPN just said that if Okafor slips to 3, the Celtics are ready to send a monster package to Philly to get him.

more good news...but I think Philly will say no - just because they can.

Yeah, don't see the incentive for Philly to trade for whatever the Celts might offer.

I can see it. Philly are going to tank again next so collecting more assets to go along with it would make sense for a redundant position. This type of trade scares me tho.
The thing is, having redundant players at the same position makes it necessary to trade one, which lowers the value of an asset.

If everyone knows Hinkie has to deal Embiid or Okafor then his offers probably won't be as good.

Embiid hasn't even been cleared to play yet. Still quite a ways away from Okafor/Embiid being redundant.

Totally buy this.  I doubt Hinkie is too interested in getting many players, but Ainge can slap down the #16 this year, the three Brooklyn picks, the Mavs pick and the Cavs pick.

As long as Embiid is healthy, this deal would entirely fit Hinkie's MO.

Wouldn't you ask for a package including Smart if you're giving up #3 and Okafor ?

He's got to be in that deal.

Remember how we all said that if Sullinger was two inches taller and didn't have back problems he'd be a perennial all-star?

If we get Okafor, we can have our cake and Sully can eat it too!!!

That was funny.
Celtics fan for life.

I'm thinking that the 76ers are interested in picks, and most likely need a PF to put next to Noel or Embiid.

If Ainge can convince Hinkie to trade the 3rd pick for anyone else besides DMC, that immediately gives us a good chance of snagging DMC.

Trade the 2015 16th, 45th, 2016 Unprotected Brooklyn's 1st, 2016 Dallas 1st, Kelly Olynyk, Even Turner, Chris Babb, Phil Pressey, to the 76ers 3rd 2015 pick, Nerlens Noel.

or

Trade the 2015 16th, 45th, 2016 Unprotected Brooklyn's 1st, 2016 Dallas 1st, Kelly Olynyk, IT, to the 76ers 3rd 2015 pick, Nerlens Noel.

What I'd be willing to trade them.  I don't want to give up Smart.  I love IT but I rather a cheaper Smart.
we have officially entered the world of silly. i can hardly wait for the [dang]ed draft and the circus surrounding it to be done tonight.

You're that anxious for the free agent and trade rumors to start? ;)

I just dont see any need in giving up an elite defensive prospect to get a guy whose ceiling is Al Jefferson at best, and who will never make a significant contribuation on the defensive end of the floor. D'Angelo Russell is a different story though. That kids going to be special.

So from the Sixer's perspective, they can have:

Mudiay, Noel, Embiid (just make the pick, assuming Russell is off board)

or

Smart, Okafor, Embiid plus stuff from Celtics (assume they trade us Noel)

or

Smart, Noel, Embiid plus even more stuff from Celitcs.

I can see it from Philly's perspective but I don't think (hope) DA would sell the farm for this.  Noel or Okafor do have more value than Smart but I like Smart.  How much of an upgrade is this for the Celtics?  Not enough to sell the farm I don't think.  Now if Smart isn't involved, different story.

I'd rather have Winslow. Okafor is a great prospect, and he's a favorite to win ROY, but he doesn't protect the rim and doesn't score outside the paint.

OooOo, intriguing. So when Okafor (who isn't slipping to 3 since the Lakers are taking him for the kings) slips to 3, the celtics are prepared to send a monster trade offer for him!! Awesome!  I wonder if Philly is already prepared to decline the hypothetical monster trade offer that will never come since the lakers are taking Okafor for the Kings?... I can't wait to not see this scenario play out.

More posturing. Philly wants Russell and doesn't want the lakers messing with them by taking Russell and trading down to 4.

Can't imagine Karl wants Okafor.
