Wow ... @WindhorstESPN just said that if Okafor slips to 3, the Celtics are ready to send a monster package to Philly to get him.
I see that their pick is intended to be traded if its a big, IMO they can trade him for a all star guard, eg. Butler. Do they value a one or two year gamble on Butler, or 2 or so Brooklyn picks in the future, this years pick, and players.

I think it would take Smart, 16, the two future Nets pick and a future C's pick, plus whoever they want still left on our roster.

It would be really nice if we could keep Smart in an Okafor deal. Smart and Bradley's wing defense could help mitigate some of Okafor's defensive concerns.

p.s.- did anyone see Windhorst say this? Was it on espn? Or espn radio? It wasn't something windhorst tweeted.

This is when you know that the league severely overreacted to numerous operational changes - the biggest being the new CBA - and overvalues picks to the extreme, Supposedly Philly offered Noel for Smart and #16 after Noel put up historic defensive numbers for a rookie, but the 3rd pick in what is probably a pretty good not great draft at most has more value than Noel before a player is even selected with it and that player steps foot on an NBA court during a live game?

Not criticizing you cuz you're probably right. Which is just sad.

more good news...but I think Philly will say no - just because they can.

Yeah, don't see the incentive for Philly to trade for whatever the Celts might offer.

Albert Breer is breaking basketball rumors now? Well, at least he's not complaining about Belichick stonewalling him for once, I guess.

I can see it. Philly are going to tank again next year so collecting more assets to go along with it would make sense for a redundant position. This type of trade scares me tho.

The thing is, having redundant players at the same position makes it necessary to trade one, which lowers the value of an asset.

If everyone knows Hinkie has to deal Embiid or Okafor then his offers probably won't be as good.

Only happens if they know something good about Embiid that the rest of us don't.

There's no one in this draft worth that IMO

I'm wary about the price of it, but I'm open to seeing how it goes. A part of me would rather make smaller jumps in the draft.

I'll have to see what players get involved. Also, if we grab this, what's left for a potential Cousins deal if that remains a possibility, that would be part of my consideration.

Guess in all, it's wait and see and then see how I feel about it once all unfolds.

From Ken Berger at CBS.  http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer/ken-berger/25223896/draft-buzz-celtics-trying-to-move-up-heat-contemplating-a-gamble

"While the Sixers have targeted D'Angelo Russell and are willing to trade up to avoid losing him to the Lakers, league sources say GM Sam Hinkie also has not closed the door on teams looking to trade up to No. 3. The price of doing such business? An unprotected future first-round pick, said a person who has been in contract with the Philadelphia front office."

I would be infuriated if we gave up Snart to get Okafor. I know many will disagree but i see Smarts ceiling as much higher.

Well Philly isn't forced to draft Okafor. They could always take Winslow or one of the euros with the pick as well.
