“Teams are not in love with their picks in the top 10,” Mannix said. “They’re not going to move anything in the top five, unless they get a sweetheart deal, but if you’re looking at Sacramento at 6, and you’re looking at Charlotte at 9, and maybe even Denver at 7 (though I haven’t been able to confirm that), those picks are very much for sale. And I don’t think the asking price is going to be overly steep. It’s not going to be cheap, but I don’t think you’re going to have to give the world to get it.

“So that’s why I think Boston has a very, very high chance of getting into the top 10 sometime later tonight. They may have to deal one of their first-rounders next year instead of No. 28 [this year], and I’m sure if they do, they’ll have some kind of condition on that pick. I just think there’s too many teams that want to deal for the Celtics to get shut out of this top 10.

...

“I think there are a couple of guys that Boston would look at. Mario Hezonja, the kid from Croatia, I think he’s someone that Boston likes. Terrific talent — he’s more Manu Ginobili than he is the prototypical shoot-only type of European player. … And again, if you’re at six, you expand your range way beyond Willie Cauley-Stein. All of a sudden, there’s the Emmanuel Mudiays of the world that could be available, Justise Winslow who could be available. I think if the Celtics are there from nine to 14, they’ll look at Cauley-Stein, but if they get higher than that, you can open up the books there a little bit.”

Also talks about what he's heard about a P2/Boston reunion.

I think the Cs want to get to 6 to take WCS. And I think SAC wants to move back a few slots (probably to 8 or 9) to take WCS yet pick up another asset.  Something has to give there.

I hope so. This draft has an unusual amount of depth at the top of the draft and drops off hard after that. Not a draft you want to be stuck at 16. Absolutely a draft you want to be in top 10.

They're not jumping that high in the lotto for WCS, sorry but that would be bad. WCS is on a current free-fall, to get him you need to plan for a smaller jump. Take better wing prospects if available at that high a pick.

I would imagine that Ainge is dangling the #16 and the firsts from Minn and Dallas we still own while everybody is asking for one or more of the Nets picks.

I feel good about this because while Ainge has his faults as a drafter, he's definitely not one to ever overpay in a deal.

The part about "opening up the books" at #6 and looking beyond WCS there certainly offers some reassurance.  If they trade into #6 just to take WCS, I'd be pretty upset.

Trading into the top 10 tonight wouldn't shock me at all.  The question is really how high up in the top 10.

I'll be pretty upset if we move all the way up to 6 and take WCS.

ps:  I do think Hezonja would fit this team....not just as a wing but as a personality.

As most people here have said, I really hope that if Danny jumps up into that 6-7 range, he isn't doing that to grab WCS. WCS has been sliding, and I really wouldn't be surprised to see him around 9-11 range.

At 6-7 I think the Celtics should take a long hard look at Hezonja. While the Celtics need rim protection (actually defense, not just rim protection), they also need the guy who is looking to score, and doesn't care who is between himself and the rim.

Also, if Hezonja did get scooped by the Cs, I think they should resign Datome at the minimum just for the fans sake (not really lol). Mario and Luigi taking names.

I'm not advocating for it. But if Ainge feels the Kings want him, and he's prepared to overpay a bit to get him instead, even if it's a couple of picks too early, well -- would you really be that surprised?
