Love seems like the type that cares about the game. He want's to be remembered, not just to be paid. Aside from LA where else is he going to find a better place to etch his name in Basketball lore than right here?

I think he wants to be remembered as a Hall Of Fame player and all time great...but doesn't want the burden/responsibility of having to lead other (lesser) players - because [dang it] he's a basketball player, not a babysitter.

I think he wants to win championships, but he doesn't want to sacrifice his own touches and stats in order to do so, because [dang it] that would potentially hinder his chances of being remembered as a Hall of Fame player and an all-time great.

In other words I think he is the absolute personification of everything that is bad about today's NBA.

He's a prima donna who feels like just because he has talent and puts up good stats, the NBA should just roll over and gift him a championship.

He's an excellent player and there is no denying that, but his attitude (or at least everything I've seen of his attitude) makes me sick to the stomach.  He is the complete mirror image of the term 'Celtic Pride' and the complete opposite of guys like Avery Bradey, Marcus Smart and Jae Crowder - guys who don't have elite talent, but earn their stripes in this league by just working harder and being tougher than the guy they are playing again.

If you acquire Love then you HAVE to make him the center of your team, otherwise he'll whinge and complain like he did in Clevleand about reduced roles and having to sacrifice his game, and blah blah blah.

But if you make him the center of your team you will never win any games, because he absolutely refuses to show anything even resembling leadership ability (as evidenced by his 6 years stint in Minnesota).

To make matters worse, if you DO make him the center of your team and he DOES fail to lead you team to any success, then you'll only keep him for the first two years of that three year contact...because by the end of the second year he'll be complaining about lack of success and requesting a trade sot hat he can try and force himself to whatever team makes him feel like he can join and cruise his way to a title.

Yet much as I know all of this is true, I still can't complain if we get him because at the end of the day he is (without a doubt) a talent upgrade over anybody we have, and even if he does prove all of the above to be true...he's gong to be on a cap friendly deal and should be easy enough to trade away later to some other poor unsuspecting team that doesn't see it coming.

Plus if the Kings don't reach a deal for Cousins this offseason, we may be able to move Love to Sacramento for Cousins by the trade deadline.  The Kings after all are completely instane and lack all understanding of what terms like "chemistry", "pride" and "work ethic" mean, so a guy like Love is probably exactly the type of player they would push for.

Its rumors like these that make me think Dannys gonna do everything in his power to get Cousins. Love won't be enticed by the likes of Robin Lopez and Paul Pierce, but if the Celtics get Cousins, then the possibility of Love gets all the stronger.

Now whether or not the Celtics will actually get Cousins, that's a different story. Sacramento doesn't want a youth rebuild, and unfortunately that's just about all the Celtics can offer. But, that doesn't stop me from thinking the Celtics can get a third team involved. It all depends on who they can get involved.

Plus as much as I dislike Love, he would pretty much be a textbook fit next to Cousins.

Love can score in the post, but prefers to play on the perimeter.  Cousins can hit the midrange jumper, but prefers to play in the post.

Love is not very big or athletic and plays more of a finesse game, while Cousins in big, physically dominant and all about power.

Cousins has the defensive presence to cover up Love's issues on that end of the flaw, while Love has the shooting range to stretch the floor and give Cousins space to operate.

Even emotionally the two guys seem to be the perfect 'ying and yang'.  Cousins would likely take over as the natural 'emotional leader' of the team, leaving Love the opportunity to just sit back in the shadows and quietly play his game.

Seems like a match made in heaven to be honest, and I find it difficult to image two guys who would compliment each other better.

Well it was enough to carry a bunch of role players in to the playoffs, which is more than Kevin Love has ever done...

Oh and before somebody brings up the inevitable "but Love played in the tougher west, where you need to win more games to make the playoff", that excuse doesn't fly.

The Celtics won 40 games this year, as a bunch of role players, in their first full season together, under a coach who is in his second year as a pro.

In the 6 years the Love was in Minnesota, the Timberwolves won 24 games, 15 games, 17 games, 26 games and 31 games before finally matching what Boston did this year (after 6 years of Kevin Love) with 40 wins in 2013/14.

People use the same argument against Demarcus Cousins has the excuse of playing for what may well be the single most dysfunctional organisation professional sports history...what's Kevin Love's excuse?

The C's have CBS which is the single biggest reason they made the playoffs. CBS would help make Love look like a superstar.

Love and Cousins are almost a perfect match. Love is a prototypical stretch 4 with the ability excellent rebounding skills Nd the ability to make plays inside by both passing And scoring. Cousins is a dominant post player with under-rated passing skills and would thrive next to a PF of Love's ilk. Plus, assuming at least Bradley and Crowder are here, our defense would be good enough to cover up Love's weaknesses.

Hold up...

You're saying coach Brad Stevens would help make Kevin Love look like a superstar?

Isn't the whole argument for us acquiring Kevin Love that fact that we need a superstar and he supposedly already is one?

But then you're trying to saying that the reason Kevin Love is better than his team records record suggest is because he needs a 30-something year old second year coach in order to make him look like what he's supposed to already be?

Well that is a little embarrassing...

As for the coaching argument, isn't Rick Adelman (who coached Love in 11/12, 12/13 and 13/14) the eight winningest coach in NBA history in terms of win percentage???

http://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/gregg-popovich-and-the-top-9-winningest-coaches-in-nba-history.html/?a=viewall

I think it's time for all of us to stop trying to find excuses for him and just admit that Kevin Love simply does not have have what it takes to carry a team.

Is he a good player?  Sure, but if he's your top dog you aren't going anywhere.

It's called winning culture and fit. The C's offer that more so than any other team. No Kevin Love isn't a "superstar". There's maybe 4 of those in the league LeBron, Durant, Curry, and Davis. He's an All-star player tho that has been underrated way too much the past few years. He also will help attract other free agents.

Yes, I agree with this. You need to build incrementally. Landing a star the likes of Kevin Love (or DMC) is the next stepping stone for the Cs. Will they be able to? Perhaps so, perhaps not. But you don't know unless you try.

Once you get one of those, then you aim a bit higher. Either a star FA to pair with the current star, or you bide your time and then package and trade the star for a "better star".

I get what Ainge is doing. It isn't rocket science. But it sure isn't easy. There's 32 teams in the league, and they all want exactly the same thing: one of LBJ, Curry, Davis, Durant -- to quote someone else ;)
Celtics fan for life.

You can't blame Love too much for not making the playoffs.  The West has been insanely tough and he's really just coming into his prime.  On the other hand, KG dragged a lot of bad Minnesota teams to first round playoff losses.

Love hasn't proven he's on that level, but a step below KG still gets you into the Hall of Fame.

How in god's name can Kevin Love possibly be called an 'underrated' player?

An underrated player is a guy like Paul Millsap, Andre Iguodala or Cauncey Billups.  Guys who rarely get media attention and struggle to make all-star teams because they put up good (but not amazing) stats - yet they increase team wins everywhere they go because they do all the small things to help their teams win games.

Kevin Love is the absolute complete polar opposite to that definition.  He's an undisputed max contract guy who made three all star teams in his first six years, is all over the media, and is most famously known for putting up ridiculously impressive stats on bad team that never won anything.

Kevin Love does ALL of the things that show up on stat sheets, and offers NONE of the intangibles that don't show up on stat sheets.

He is the very definition of overrated.

Also your definition of a superstar differs from mine.  I would say that guys like Love, Aldridge and Cousins are very much considered superstars.  Guys who are absolute no brainer max contract players.  As in you (as the GM of a team) wouldn't even dream of offering them less than a max contract for fear or insulting them.

Guys like Lebron, Davis, Durant, Duncan, Garnett and Nowitzki are one step above that in the "franchise player" category.  These are guys who come along maybe a few times in a generation and pretty much completely revolutionise what's expected from a player at their position.

Curry is (imho) closer to 'Superstar' than 'Franchise Player' at this particular point in time.

Mere All-Stars to me are guys who are good enough to make an All-Star team, but you still kinda question whether you'd throw a max contract at them - guys like Millsap, Korver, etc.

Love, Lopez, and Pierce is a pretty sad version of a new Big 3.
 :P

Now, if Danny can get any two of the following, then it will be time to start planning for a playoff run:
Cousins, Aldridge, MGasol, Milsap, Deandre, K Leonard, Butler

Why is that a sad version?

Pierce can still play and Love and Lopez are great players

And what real Celtics fan wouldn't want to see Pierce come back home?

Don't know what some people are thinking!

Love/Lopez/Pierce is SAD compared to other Big 3s of the past.  I don't know how you can think that's a great combination vs KG/Pierce/Allen, Love/Kyrie/LBJ, LBJ/Wade/Bosh, etc.  A new "Big 3" should be max-salary caliber players...players that you can build a championship team around.  Love fits that description but Side Show Bob and a near-retirement Pierce aren't anything to get excited about.  That's a MAJOR step down from Cousins, Aldridge, MGasol, Milsap, Deandre, K Leonard, Butler.  (I'm not being greedy....I just want 2 of those guys.)

And I'm all for bringing Pierce back but he shouldn't be counted on to be a major contributor.  He's not getting any younger.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.
