I could dig the Robin Lopez deal.....tuff rebounder with size to get in people's way .

Minus KLove ......he has multiple issues , I think ,  no proof ,  just my hunch from watching him.

Pierce an't coming back .....unless it to party

Lopez has historically been a below average rebounder but good defender and quick enough to defend the pick and roll.  Loves rebounding helps make up for lopez deficiencies.

hmm...  Cousins/Love/Pierce would have a lot more cache to it.

Cleveland remains the frontrunner to sign Love to a five-year, $100M-plus extension, but Love could be willing to hear out Celtics, Lakers.

in my opinion if Love signs a long term contract with Cleveland he will be traded between next deadline and the following, lots of the push from Cleveland may be just to not lose him for nothing and at that point love won't be able to control his destiny.  I'd leave or do S&T

After his relatively disappointing season Love may not ever be offered $100/5 again, and a S&T would be a lot of money left on the table for someone who could very easily turn into this generation's Amar'e Stoudimire.

Wouldn't have to be an S+T but it seems like it would behoove a player like Love to sign a LeBron style 2-year max deal with a 1 year opt-out to get one year at this cap's max, then sign a new Bird Rights deal with the team he chose when the cap blows up next season.

If he's confident he can put up good numbers again as a #1 guy this seems like the best of both worlds - pick the team you want and get 6 years of max salary, with the last 5 coming out of a much bigger cap.  Plus the option of bailing after one season, or getting the second max year if the first year's a dud.  It'd be a gamble but not a very big one.

Ugh.   Not even remotely excited about Robin Lopez.   I don't think that team wins anything.

Wow that's some plan there. I mean Love with an ancient PP and above average Lopez? Give me a break I guess it's better than KO/Sully/Smart but that team isn't winning anything..

between our backup point guard, Robin Lopez and 48 year old Paul Piece (who we don't even have on our roster), I don't know how Kevin Love could possibly say no.

Considers Marcus Smart a backup point guard, yet is practically giddy at the thought of trading for Anthony Bennett.

Mike

He's pretty giddy about most non-Celtics.

It does seem overly negative to not at least yourself be happy for a day about seeing Paul Pierce in Green for another year (however remote the idea is). Even if we were another 40 win team, having him around Young, Smart and others for a year would definitely seem to have value. If Paul Pierce wants to do that how can you be against it or down on the idea.
If we got Kevin Love, I'd do backflips.  I'd love to see Pierce back here.   No doubt.

To be clear, I think getting Love is at least plausible.  He would be a rock star here.   I just had to laugh at the idea that the big master pitch revolves around also bringing in Paul Pierce and Robin Lopez.  You dont' think that's funny?  Between our backup point guard acting as our chief draw and the huge lure of potentially playing alongside Robin Lopez and Paul Pierce, you have to chuckle a bit.

I'm 100% on board with getting Love.   I still think he would rather go to the Lakers to play with rondo and cousins.   Rondo + Kobe + COusins vs IT + Pierce + Robin Lopez... tough choice.   I think it comes down to the weather.

Somebody call Greg Monroe and say "Hey Greg, Kevin Love is interested in coming to Boston. You should sign with us! We'll win plenty of championships here."

Then somebody call Kevin Love and say "Hey Kevin, Greg Monroe is coming to Boston. You should sign with us! You two would be a formidable frontcourt duo."

*Greg Monroe and Kevin Love both sign with Boston Celtics*

Pick up the phone and call Paul Pierce "Yo Captain. Time to make your return to Boston. Kevin and Greg are here. With you at the wing and Marcus, Avery, and Isaiah playing the backcourt we'd take down LeBron James."

*Paul Pierce signs and returns to the Boston Celtics*

Sounds like the Lakers have no interest in trading for Cousins, would rather keep Okafor.

and FWIW, I would think 98% of NBA players would rather play with our backup pg than Kobe & Rondo..

I don't think the IT stuff is as far fetched as you think it is in some of the cases. Unless I am getting the stories confused he was childhood friends with Love and they remain very friendly. In that context playing with a friend who is at least an average player can be a small nugget of appeal all other things being equal. With Cousins, it is unclear how good friends he and IT are but they had a pretty epic twitter exchange when they were teammates sending back photo shopped images of each other in different movies. My experience is that you only do that kind of thing with your friends that you are pretty cool with. (I also hate myself a little for writing hte last two sentences) So again maybe that is a tiny thing working in our favor if all other things are being equal. I do think the other thomas stuff he is more or less just joking around and has absolutely no bearing on anything.

As for Pierce, he really likes Boston, I think everyone agrees on that. If they get a star player and a starting caliber NBA center to go along with some of their solid players it isn't a lottery team. I don't think it is laughable to get Pierce to sign on with that with the promise that you will use your assets (the brooklyn picks, wallace's contract etc) to get one more piece and really make a run at it. Is that really that laughable?

What the hell is going on!!!!!!!!

That sounds like a horrible team by the way. Lakers sounds better with Okafor to be honest.

Means a lot coming from someone who's forum name is TankCity.

If you like Okafor so much, then watch the Lakers.

I am getting of the negativity here regarding the Celts trying to acquire veteran players to win a championship.

Love, Lopez, and Pierce is a pretty sad version of a new Big 3.
 :P

Now, if Danny can get any two of the following, then it will be time to start planning for a playoff run:
Cousins, Aldridge, MGasol, Milsap, Deandre, K Leonard, Butler

Why is that a sad version?

Pierce can still play and Love and Lopez are great players

And what real Celtics fan wouldn't want to see Pierce come back home?

Don't know what some people are thinking!
