Actually Love leaving MIGHT be a blessing for Cavs .

He will not get the chance to produce what his salary will be worth. Why pay a max for a person that will sit on the bench , he is an offensive minded player , he needs the ball alot , he an't gonna get it with Irving and Diva on the court every minute.


I think David West would be More valuable to LeBron than Love ......at 1/2 the price.

I doubt it would be a 1 year deal.  Instead I'd expect it to be a 2 or 3 year deal with the last year being a player option.  With 2 years, he'd be working from a 108mil cap rather than an 88mil cap.  With 3 years, he'd have 10 years and thus be eligible for 35% of cap rather than 30% of cap.   A 5 year MAX deal is a definite possibility too.

Which means nothing, btw.  LeBron is opting out too.  This has been known for a year.  Just giving a heads up to anyone who reads into this.   They are opting out to sign better contracts. 

That doesn't mean he's definitely staying with the Cavs, but it seems to be most likely.

I don't know man, it looks like Cavs are going to do a sign and trade. Originally, everyone was saying Love would opt in and play out another year and wait for the big payday after the CBA. I really think Love is gone after this IMO. Not saying to the celts cause the Lakers have the best shot.

A sign-and-trade is great and all, but such a deal would not necessarily be best for Love.  It means a) his new team would be less strong, and b) it means Love would not be able to sign a 1-2 year deal and get a bigger payday next year, as some think he wants to do.  S&T deals must be for a minimum of three years.

It works if Love's preferred team can't sign him outright.  Otherwise, there's no reason for one.

The Cavs probably can't do the cap manuevering to pay West half the price, so the choice may be between Love at the max or someone at the minimum, whether a veteran or a D-Leaguer or an undrafted rookie.

Honestly, I still have high concerns with Love's health. He seems to get injured often, even if some are freak accidents like that of Olynyk's, but it does give me some pause.

Yeah I think you're right: if it's a 3 year deal with a player option he'll have his Bird rights transfer at the end of the third year.
