See, the thing is failed trades do not often leak out into the media like that. Feel like this trade was fabricated by a reporter, why would a LA reporter report a BOS PHI thing?

For sure, I never said it was 100% true. I just said it was reported. But then he said no way Boston made this offer, when I think it would make sense to offer a shot in the dark like this, even if you don't think Hinkie would say yes.

The only one that directly benefits from this would be Hinkie because it establishes what would be too low of an offer for #3 as well as letting his young guys that they aren't available.

This time of year is sooo much fun with all this crap.  I'm excited for the draft but I know I'm gonna be on the edge of my seat every time I hear Adam Silver say "we have a trade to announce".. And the next day I'll go on Celticsblog and read several posts about how Danny did nothing, or "That's It?" Or "We should've tanked"...I still love it here though

GM's don't leak these things by accident. They leave that for Bill Simmons's Twitter account.

Any time a team has an asset that they're willing to trade they make 30 phone calls of varying seriousness and length. That's their due dilligence as employees of the team, and if they didn't do that they would be categorically bad general managers. The idea that only the two GM's involved in the discussion of a given transaction are the ones who know about the discussion is brutally naive.

I hope everyone understands that if this trade goes through it's to flip it to Sacramento with Sully and a future 1st for Cousins.

I have this on good authority from my source with the Kings the the Celtics don't have the players the kings are looking for, as they want a combo of established players and good draft picks. Getting Noel + Sullinger + #3 + 1 future nets pick gets the deal done. What I don't know is if the Sixers really turned this deal down.

I am still holding hope something gets done Thursday, but kings really want someone to overpay.

Assuming this is true -- no offense I hope -- it would speak to the gulf of difference in perceived value between Noel and Smart (that many have been adamant does not exist in  similar threads, incidentally), at least to Sacramento.

Hard for me to give an opinion here as I really only know Celtics players, that said, I would really hate to see Smart traded. I really really hated to see Rondo go, and the thing that made it ok was Smart.

The rondo trade was the right move and I'm sure if Danny trades Smart it will probably be the right move too. doesn't mean I have to like it.

I love Smart, but I'd have to do this.

Elite defensive bigs like Noel don't grow on trees and are very valuable in this league, so throw in #3 as well - yeah, I can't say no to that.

I also don't get why people believe Boston wouldn't make this offer. Ainge and Stevens have already been on record stating that one of their key priorities is to get a rim protecting big man, and it's a well known fact that Ainge wants to try to trade up in to the draft lottery.

Plus we already have a good PG (Thomas) and are depsperate for a center, while Philly already has a good center (Embiid) and are desperate for a PG.  So in theory the player swap makes complete sense to both teams.

However I feel like those two players are of roughly equivalent value right now, so trying to also get #3 out of them (in return for #16 + #28) is simply not going to happen, and would almost certainly be the reason for Philly hanging up the phone.
