If you want World Peace, you don't do it.  He is Ron Artest 2.0

Do you mean to say that's a bad thing? Because Ron Artest without the crazy is a great player and a perfect fit for the Cs.

Ron Artest had a great career and helped the Lakers win a championship.  Cray cray is sometimes the only way to go.

I would give up all 4 picks to move up for Mudiay, Hezonja, Winslow, and maybe WCS but not for Johnson.  I'd say RHJ is a similar player and 90% of the prospect; if we're going to use our top pick on a defensive wing I'd rather take him at 16 and take 3 fliers later on.

I agree. Hezonja, Winslow, Stein yes. Stanley is way O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D.

This from Draftexpress: great potential (there's that word again), ...BUT

Quote
With that said, Johnson's potential as a defender didn't always translate into production on this end of the floor. He has a tendency to take plays off at times, getting beat off the dribble a little more than you'd like, and not always quite showing that junkyard dog mentality he gives you in small doses. He's at times too focused on showing off his potential as a scorer, which appeared to be a source of frustration for his coaches and teammates at times, getting tunnel vision as a passer and not looking locked in consistently defensively.

Johnson was downright dreadful as a finisher around the basket as a freshman, hitting just 40% of his half-court shot attempts inside the paint this season, one of the worst rates among any prospect in our Top-100. He isn't very explosive from a vertical standpoint, and had a tough time adjusting to the physicality of the college game, simply trying to beast his way through defenders like he was usually able to in high school. He relies too heavily on his right hand, and isn't quite as physical as you might hope finishing through contact, although he did get to the free throw line at a very nice rate (6.6 times per-40p), which helped salvage his efficiency somewhat. As Johnson matures, teams will want to see him do a better job with his decision making, as he's not a bad passer when he commits to playing under control and surveying the entire floor......

I would rather pick Anderson at 16 than to give up substantial assets to move up to pick Stanley Johnson.

Combine #s:

SJ:  6'5" w/o shoes.....  6'6.5" w/ shoes....  242 lbs...  6'11.5"wingspan...7.5 body fat

JA:  6'5.25".................6'6.25"................231 lbs.......6'11.75"...........5.0 body fat

Anderson's 43 Max Vert.....Johnson....didn't participate (not that explosive)

Yah, I get the age difference with Johnson being 2 1/2 years younger, but when does potential, with which so many are enamored, become outweighed by the ability to contribute more effectively and efficiently right now and for a substantial while?

Johnson has great D potential, we're told. Anderson, already plays great D.

Johnson's 3 pt shooting will get better. Anderson's, through busting his hump, improved dramatically last year (over 45%), and is better than Johnson's. Maybe Johnson will potentially get there.

Anderson is a take no prisoners competitor. His Cs workout against RHJ was a "bloodbath" according to A. Ainge. Maybe Stanley will gain that killer instinct, too. Maybe not.

Am I the only one who thinks that Rondae Hollis Jefferson can be better than Johnson?

I would not be surprised at all.

Add me to the S.J Camp.   8)

Also I want to add, it makes no sense to like Winslow but not Johnson,  Winslow benefited off that Duke team, as Johnson would if he played for that Duke team.

Its not made up. He shot around 41 percent close to the basket.   Not a good rate.  Maybe he can improve on this part of his game by picking his spots better. But has a mediocre feel for the game. Once he is on the move he has a tunnel vision to need to score

Nope. All his strengths come with caveats. He can get to the rim but he's not a great rim finisher. He can shoot decently well but his jumper is easy to block with its low release point. He has good tools and instincts on D, but questionable focus. He has good athleticism but nothing unusual for an NBA wing.

I'd rather go after Oubre, who has very similar stats per-40 but far more upside. Much better tools with his length and quickness. Unblockable jumper. Finishes around the rim. He was less good defensively this year, made more freshman mistakes, and earned fewer minutes. But his NBA appeal is at least as high, and he can be had for less.

Nope.
I'm excited about the draft, but ultimately I would prefer to use the draft picks in a trade for proven talent. The reality is that many of the names being discussed as going in the top 15-20 wont even be remembered a year from now. Much safer to pass on them and trade for a vet. Not as excited, yes, but in any event my prefered move.

I say absolutely, because the other draft picks are quite frankly worth next to nothing...and Danny Ainge is NOT likely to add more than one rookie to our active roster...why would not get a rookie that's going to contribute?

Johnson may not be an elite offensive player, but he's an elite defensive player and a good offensive player - that's a pretty rare combination.
