Thaddeus Young is opting out, and I suspect he isn't coming back to the Nets. That's official. I assume Lopez is as well, and prob going to the Bucks, but that isn't official. So...there's a decent chance the Nets lose 2 of their best players, and have no cap space to sign anyone of relevant impact. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I think the chances of the Nets picks over the next 2 years being top 5-7 are extremely high.
which is probably why Ainge is having a hard time trying to get into the lottery. I suspect that GMs want that 2016 Bkn pick and Ainge is holding onto it. I can understand why.

He must have some serious health concerns if he's opting out instead of signing a megadeal next season.

Don't rule out wanting to escape from the purgatory that is the Nets. He's lived through 12-70.

Sure, but follow this with me.
Lopez is set to earn $16.7m this season, after which he is a free agent.

Instead, he is forgoing that guaranteed $16.7 to be a free agent this year, whereupon he will sign a deal that will inevitably be smaller  than the one he would get as a free agent next season (assuming good health).

So either Brooklyn sucks enough that he's fine leaving $16.7 on the table to play somewhere else (very possible), or he's getting some kind of feedback that the probability of a contract-effecting injury is high enough to be worth taking the longer deal now.

Fair enough. It's probably both, though. He finished the season pretty [dang] healthy, but he probably doesn't want to bank on that. I also wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to risk opting in, getting injured, AND being stuck on a listless Nets squad.

I mean, I think he's one more significant foot injury away from basically calling it a career.  He's in Yao / Walton / McHale territory.

He'll get paid, the Nets are forced to if they don't want to blow it up. And if they don't the OKC Thunder were ready to trade for him so he'll get a deal similar to whatever Kanter ends up getting one way or another.

Yeah, I mean unless there is protection put on the Nets picks, there is no way Ainge should trade any of them, unless we're talking about getting a stud player. And nobody will give comparable value for those picks (since we don't know how good/bad they might be) right now, anyway.

I think Brook Lopez is a great option for the Cs. If he works out, then the Nets are terrible and we likely win the Atlantic if the Raptors blow it up.  A Win-Win scenario.  If he doesn't and he injures himself and can't play ever again, then the Cs tank and the Nets tank and we get two very high picks in next years lottery. Another win-win.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Yep. I'd avoid him. I'd like Robin Lopez if we could get him.

I'd sign him up. What other options at center are out there, being real? When healthy, he is very good.

I agree he is a TRUE center with skills. I would try to sign him also.

He officially opted out today; it's no longer a rumor...

Looks like both he and Thad will resign. Hopefully they do not.

Can we go after both of the Lopez Brothers?  Then grab the Zellers and Plumlees?   Is there two of those?   Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.,   it makes as much sense as 10 guards.

TP. Love it. Brainstorming this idea yesterday. If we're gonna suck, might as well be fun.
