A lot can change from now til game 1 but I hope that at the end of the offseason there is room for Bass on the team. He is what he is at this point, but that is a solid back up 4 that can play in clutch time when called on. His mid range shot is really good and he has the size and relative quickness to do a decent job on D against the LBJ and Melo types. He seems to be team first and we could probably retain him cheaply.

But what is we bring in a star big without giving up Kelly, Sully or Zeller? Thats a hard call. I'd want Bass in the game over those 3 if there was a minute to go and we were tied. But they are still on rookie deals. A good strategy for us might be to try to make Sully and Kelly look good and trade them before we have to give them a bigger contract. If we want to do that, Bass is kind of in the way.

Bass has been solid through the rebuild and definitely can still contribute. I am not sure what room will be left for him, sentiment doesn't win NBA titles and he may become excess to requirements. Personally, I I am happy if he stays - he does his bit, team player and more valuable than some other players who could go if/when assets are traded.

I would love for Bass to stay but it's hard to see it unless Ainge manages to land one of the top free agents and the team goes into win now mode.

It's crucial for Sully, Zeller and KO to get minutes next season.  It's also virtually certain that Ainge is going to bring in at least one more big through the draft or free agency.  And then there's the question of bringing back Jerebko.  How much can you afford to pay a guy you hope only gets on the court in garbage time?  Can Bass pass up more minutes and more money from another team?

Good points. I think we have to take Bass over Jerebko. I guess it comes down to money too.

I agree: If Danny lands, say, Aldridge and Mathews, or something comparable, Bass would be a valuable backup big. I'd kinda hate to see him go, but I guess we all need to remember the main point of all potential deals: Trying to win a title. I liked the guys we had this year, but we've got to be willing, as fans, to see the team surrender backups and role players in exchange for players capable of carrying Boston to a title.

Nope, none.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Bass is a hard worker and role model for young players, but he doesn't fit on the team anymore.

Jerebko has the positional versatility that Bass lacks, which makes him a more likely re-sign.

I don't expect either of them back, though.

I say the only guys we should be concerned about keeping right now are Smart and...well....nope that's it.

I'd say Young too but his value right now is he's the great unknown, that could be a good thing and a bad thing. he could be a throw in for a team thinking he might be a steal(and he might). as far as him being a contributor and being involved in a rotation though? I think he's a couple yrs. away from that. I think it will be 5 yrs. from now when we find out what exactly Young is.

Bass
Jerebko
Crowder

these are guys we can get whenever, they're interchangeable and not guys you say "we have to get these guys". at least not for this team. this team needs to find a core of actual players that aren't just "nice players" like those 3 are. and you can't get actual players while you're investing time and money into players like Bass and Jerebko.

aim higher and the bits and pieces will fall into place. signing Bass should be the last thing this team should give a thought to.

He has been great for us, couldn't expect more from him, gave 100% effort night in night out. He has been one of the most consistent players on our roster in recent years. With that said, he is good at what he does, but it isn't what we need at this very moment. We want versatility on our roster, but in my mind he is a classic PF.

If the guy is willing to accept the One year Vet Minimum to be the 5th big in the rotation and leader of the weight room, sure bring him back.

That'd be a terrible career choice for him considering he can still play and only just turned 30 years old.
