Yes, I know he's been injured. Yes, I know he's overpaid. Yes, I know he's opting in.

But did you know Eric Gordon, after returning from his injury, was second in the league in 3pt field goal percentage, only behind Kyle Korver?

So with players with about 200 attempts, Gordon shot 44.8% with 2.5 3PA, and was 4.5% better by emerging as a low key but potential franchise valued player after helping them make the road to the playoffs. While this was his first time to the playoffs, Gordon did not disappoint by averaging 18.5 PPG, 3.8 APG, and averaged 3.3 3PA attempts on 8.0 3PA for 40.6%, which is still impressive.

I'm not saying Gordon is a max player. Far from it, but Gordon is still 26, and is still coming off a injury riddled year, so there is a possibility the Pelicans are definitely looking to trade him later on during the season. The Pelicans aren't convinced Gordon can be a go to scorer, but he doesn't need to be. Gordon once became a fearless ball handling, tear dropping, foul shooting, and reckless finisher inside the paint.

But the only difference is while Gordon may not get to the foul line as much, he desperately brings one of the most important aspects to the game nowadays. Spot up, and deadly 3 point shooting.

Danny Ainge has always been interested in him. And while I'm not convinced Bradley is our starting shooting guard, Gordon is the only one that has superstar and Allstar potential. Plus, I think Brad Stevens can unitize Gordon well enough to make up for his offensive/defensive deficiencies.

What does anyone think?

For about 16m a year he would be great. When he came back from his injury he played great for the pelicans, although I thought he took too many shots away from Davis. He would be perfect in Stevens system. Any ideas on how to get him?

I wouldn't give up anything of value for him. Wallace and maybe a 2nd rounder?

Whoa. I mean, I didn't mean it like that. I think Gordon should definitely take a decent pay cut, especially if he wants a multi year deal, I was probably thinking around 8-9 per year.

And I do agree, he would definitely fit in Stevens system. A deadly 3 point shooter, he can still somewhat finish, and he is an okay defender. Yes he's undersized, but we can always have Smart guard the better player.

As for ideas on how to acquire him, I was thinking maybe we could do a sign and trade? Pelicans want more shooting, I could see us offering Jerebko, cap filler, with one or two second round picks?

I wouldn't give up anything of value for him. Wallace and maybe a 2nd rounder?

If they asked for two, is that a deal breaker?

Remember we were contemplating trading Pierce, Bradley, or someone else for them with far higher value than Wallace and a 2nd round pick.

I actually didn't know how much he made per year, I assumed he made about 17m. On second look he makes 14m already, so I would say for about 11m he would be good, even better once the cap goes up. Of course, this is all hypothetical, for his current talents he should probably fetch a max considering players like Middleton and Harris are set to be max players.

Why would the Pelicans do that?  Gordon is the better player and a 2nd wouldn't be enough to make up the difference.  Both players expire after the season, is $4million off this year worth it, are they in need of cap space?

I'd do Wallace, 28, 33, and 45 especially if the AB for 12 and Hood rumors were accurate.  I think Gordon would flourish in Stevens system.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Interesting question. This guys was the centerpiece of the trade for Chris Paul once upon a time, and he's only 26. The salary honestly would not concern me too much, as I believe the Celtics would only look at a trade for Gordon if they struck out on top-tier free agents. However, at that point you have to look at size and injury history. Gordon is oft-injured, and he's only 6'4". A backcourt with 5'9" Thomas, 6'2" Avery Bradley, 6'4" Gordon, and 6'4" Smart is passable but far from huge. I will admit that I have knowledge about neither Gordon's defense nor the nature of his injuries.

I guess if DA and CBS do research and figure that Gordon is a guy worth pursuing, I would have no problem with a transaction that netted him. However, I'm not breaking down the front door and shipping out anything the Pelicans want to get him.

This kid can't catch a break. He is always injured and made of glass. IDK I think it would make more sense to throw the assets it would take to get him at ORL and sign RFA Tobias Harris. Especially since we have James Young coming up and IT as a 6th man.

Holy 16m. Cool he put in the work to become a light's out shooter, though. Suggests he really wants to stay in the league and play at the highest level he can, despite injuries. Any one happen to have a readily available injury history for him? Would be interesting to see what he has been/is dealing with. Doesn't seem like an asset Ainge would look at too seriously, but I'm intrigued too. TP for the post.

Nope.  Injury prone, unreliable and overpaid.  That's not a formula to build a contender

Nah. He hasn't recovered well enough. His creative abilities offensively (both as scorer and passer) have declined considerably. Without that incredible athleticism, Gordon hasn't been able to overcome his lack of size to any acceptable degree to allow him to continue to be a starter.

Should be a 15mpg backup at this juncture in his career.

It's disappointing. Gordon was becoming one hell of a player before the injuries ruined him.

No thanks. If we bring him in, what's the point of having James Young on our roster? He'll just block Young's rise.
