How many big name free agents did he lure to the Suns and Kings?
This is also...very disingenuous and you should know why. Rondo9 already mentioned one.
IT didn't break out as a 20 PPG player until his final year in Sacramento. He immediately left for Phoenix, and this is his first off-season away from both the Kings and the Suns. This is the first time he's being asked to recruit as one of the better efficient volume scorers in the league.
It's not all about IT, but Stevens + Ainge + 2008 championship build + IT + mid season run of playing at a 55 win pace will turn some heads in recruitment. Will anyone sign here? Who knows, but between the LMA (Parker or no Parker) and Love random visits, it seems players will actually hear the Celtics out. IT only helps in this department.
Disingenuous? Haha. I assume you make ad hominem attacks because the answer is zero?
Keep hanging on to the dreams of 55 wins and IT being a Lebron-level recruiter, though. I envy your optimism.
There was a logical fallacy in your post. No, IT has not lured any free agents, but the logical reasoning is, "when did he actually have the opportunity to as a big time impact player?" The answer is never. Asking when has IT ever helped lure a free agent was completely, again, disingenuous, and you should know the reason why, which is surprising considering you are one of the most logical people on these forums. This is akin to saying the Celtics have no shot in free agency because they've never pulled a big free agent before, which ignores the fact that the Celtics have never had cap space and an attractive young team to sell at the same time.
Dreams of 55 wins? I said the Celtics played at a 55 win pace to close the season over ~40% of a sample size. That's quite large, and it's a fact (not a dream). Never said they would win that over 82 games as currently constructed, but you really think the Celtics won't sell that type of improvement to free agents over the summer? Again, I never said the Celtics will definitely sign a big free agent, but none of these facts can hurt, which is the point.
Even my original post was simply calling out LarBrd for saying IT was a backup point guard and comparing him to Lou Williams. That's just so far off base. IT was at worst a top 3 player (best in Boston) throughout a season where he collectively won 47 games between Phoenix and Boston. He's also one of a handful of players who can score 18-20 PPG as efficiently as he did/has the last two seasons. Referring to him as simply a "backup point guard" in a derogatory manner
is disingenuous no matter how much you wanna slice it.
If you want to say "is anyone going to listen to a player who's only been in the playoffs once?" then fine. That's true, and I wouldn't have had an issue with that. The whole backup point guard/Lou Williams thing is my issue and is just...I've already said it like 5 times. It's not logical at all.
I kind of agree too, the pessimism can get as bad as being overly optimistic.
Is it really pessimistic to think that we're not going to win 55 games, and that free agents aren't lining up to play with IT?
Who said any of this? You are jumping to conclusions and not reading my post properly.
This is what was written:
It's not all about IT, but Stevens + Ainge + 2008 championship build + IT + mid season run of playing at a 55 win pace will turn some heads in recruitment. Will anyone sign here? Who knows, but between the LMA (Parker or no Parker) and Love random visits, it seems players will actually hear the Celtics out. IT only helps in this department.- I said the Celtics played at a 55 win pace after the mid-season. This is a fact. They played at a 55 win pace for the final 40% of the season. I did not say it will happen for a full season next year, only that it should help free agents understand the Celtics are not a pushover.
- I did not say any player will line up to play behind IT ("It's not all about IT."). I said it is only beneficial to have a player like IT speaking for the Celtics to go along with the management and coaching staff, which has a good reputation.
- All I said was "it seems players will actually hear the Celtics out." Yes, that's me throwing my mark out there that all the free agents will be lining up behind IT and the Celtics like we have Lebron!
You somehow twisted it around and turned that into:
Is it really pessimistic to think that we're not going to win 55 games, and that free agents aren't lining up to play with IT? So again, who knows what will happen this summer, but people going out of there way to be pessimistic in an exaggerated fashion about a factor that should only be beneficial is a little aggravating for some. IMO, it's veering on trollish, but that's another discussion.
