GSW David lee - celtics proposed trade

Well this would be a good move ala getting CLE pick last year, if we are going to go youth movement and collect more assets. BUT we should try and get 30 and/or a future unprotected first. Curry's ankles use to be a problem and Bogut has always been hurt in the past. With them being in the West if someone goes down....well you know.

Make it for the 2017 draft. We have 1 first in that draft and it is 2 years away, a lot can happen. Also the 2017 draft is suppose to be pretty good: Dennis Smith Jr, Bam Bam, and guys from next years freshman class that return for an extra year ala Marcus Smart.

BTW David Lee is in his last year of contract, so he would get off the books the same time as G wallace,

What if the Cs got a 3rd team (possibly one that is rebuilding and doesn't mind renting out the cap space) to take  Wallace for picks from us and Golden State?

I'm thinking, Golden State sends us Lee and the third team the No. 30 pick, we send the third team Wallace and the No. 45 pick, anand for legal purposes we send Golden State our No. 33 pick.

We wouldn't need to give GSW the #33.  We could just give them a heavily protected future 2nd rounder.  However the only thing we'd get out of the trade is Lee who I don't want.  I'd rather have Wallace on the bench.

I don't think GS is willing to move Ezeli to move Lee and the recent going rate to dump salary is a first round pick for every 8-14M of salary. Given that Lee's salary is at the high end of that (actually slightly above it) and that GS pick this year is #30, it's not likely that they can dump him with just that pick.

So it's either add in a future pick (which would be 2019 at the earliest) or accept some salary back.

The real complication for the Warriors is that they can't simply stretch Lee and lop $10M off their cap because his deal was signed under the old CBA and is not stretchable. 

So a Wallace for Lee and the 2019 unprotected first might make sense to both teams depending upon how much flexibility Aigne wants in FA. Lee only adds about 5M in salary so doesn't take them out of the running for younger max free agents like Monroe, Harris and the like but does eliminate the chances of getting a LaMarcus Aldridge or one of the other well-seasoned max free agents. However, those are highly unprobable anyway. Lee just takes over Brandon Bass' veteran big role unless/until he can be flipped later in the year for value.

For GS they turn the unstretchable Lee into Wallace. Stretch Wallace, and they lop 12M off their cap this year.

I don't mind having Crash around. Perhaps when Golden State stretches him, he can retire and join Stevens' staff as an assistant.
