So I guess you would have passed on Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau and Mark Gasol, all from the mean streets of Europe....

Just watched video. The guy does not miss, even from 3 point line. Shoots 3's like they're layups. Granted not guarded, still, have to be impressed with that stroke from a guy 7'1" who has really good mobility. 

I predicted at the beginning of the year, he would be a top 3 pick. Now I'm starting to see him go 1 or 2.  Curious to see what Chad Ford says in his next Mock Draft.

Ford has him as the 2nd best big after Towns. Pelton has him as the 3rd. I'm also interested in Turner and ESPN's Ford and Pelton both have rated him above WCS according to a piece today.  If doctors are OK with his legs he could rise yet.

Ford-
I struggle a bit between Willie Cauley-Stein and Turner for the last spot. I believe Cauley-Stein has the potential to be the best defender in the NBA. He has all the physical tools and defensive instincts to guard all five positions. But his utter lack of an offensive game scares me. So did his very inconsistent efforts at Kentucky over three years. Turner also was very inconsistent at Texas. But he's a similar size, a much better offensive player (he has the ability to stretch the floor) and he should be a good rim protector. And at the same age, he was a better player than Cauley-Stein as a freshman. I know there's some bust potential with Turner, but I really love the upside.

Pelton-
If we talk about the direction the NBA is headed, I think Turner shines. While he didn't shoot the college 3 well as a freshman, his 83.9 percent free throw percentage suggests Turner should eventually develop into a dangerous outside shooter. The 3-and-D big man is an extremely rare species, and Turner's impressive shot blocking and defensive rebounding (his rates of both were similar on both counts to Towns) indicate he's got a real chance to join this group.

This year you have Towns (who plays for the Dominican Republic), Mudiay (born in Zaire), Porzingis, and Hezonja all who will be going in the top 8. Next year the #1 overall pick will probably be Australian.

Exactly. The idea that american players are generally better and tougher is rapidly going out the window. That was an outdated mentality. The world has caught up with american basketball, and more and more foreign players with great talent are on the way to the NBA.

That and many ex players or college players go international to get work and their kids have US parents teaching them. So in essence they owe us and have a piece of us in them.

ESPN's Pelton's chat today regarding Saric vs Porzingis:

Michael (Philadelphia) If Porzingis does end up at no.3 to the Sixers, how would he fit with their current team and how would he fit/compare with Saric?


Kevin Pelton  (4:18 PM) They're different types of players. Saric would be more of the playmaking 4 that Zach Lowe wrote about recently. There's a chance he might be able to play some small forward in the NBA, though that seems like a bit of a stretch given his athleticism and shooting. Porzingis is a better athlete and figures to be a better defender, and he's probably going to become a somewhat better shooter. Overall, I have Porzinigis rated a substantially better prospect based on their performance and age.

Porzingis has been playing in the top league outside the US too.

Dirk and Pierce were the best two players in that year's draft. Most GM's would argue that Dirk had an overall better career than Pierce, more All Pro Teams, for instance.  But that is a false argument.  Based on your logic, you would have passed on Dirk to take any American player that year, and that is insane, my friend.

And your original point was that Porzingis was too skinny, yet you apparently are a fan of KG, one very skinny dude.  Try dealing with your original point.

Its a ? that we could ask till the end of time. Point is that PP was our blue collar, come to work everyday, never miss a game type of guy. He got stabbed almost a dozen times and came right back, he got hit by Amare and fell right on his face and broke his 2 front teeth and came back in the game, then played the next game directly after leaving the dentist. He was always our MVP even with the 1 1/2 years KG was his best with us. KG was almost selected MVP that year but he was not even the best player on the team.....we never heard a peep from Pierce.

He also never demanded a trade and stuck with us. I hope he comes back to be in the front office or scouting.
