Few trade notes. The scouts put WC Stein in special tier as a defensive player. Heard Cousins wants him @6 so he doesn't have to play C.

that would be a hell of a pairing . They would just need too add some perimeter scorers/shooters .

Great up front, but may face the same spacing problems that Detroit has these past couple of years. The perimeter players would have to be on a Curry/Ray Allen/Korver level.

So Cousins wants to guard guys like Blake Griffin.  That doesn't make sense.

This will be interesting I think it will ultimately work well as a pairing as Cousins has show he can shoot from the perimeter (not a real stretch 4 but more in the Tim Duncan mold). On D WCS versatility will allow his to defend the more mobile PFs still allowing DC to guard bigger (stronger) centers.

Where this becomes interesting is the PG aspect of this. Will they pass on Mudiay if he is available at #6 for WCS? If they instead draft WCS do they make a run at Rondo knowing that he and WCS could create floor spacing issues? Do they just role with Collison next season?

Nope. He's proven at the C position. Why change that now? Also, I highly doubt they'd have enough spacing to make that work.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Smokescreen from the Kings. They need to raise those offers for the #6 pick.

Against the clippers WCS or even Gay would guard Griffin. Cousins would guard the center. I think cousins is looking for the offensive freedom that is associated with PF. Historically a lot of big men want to be considered PFs and not Centers. Both KG and Duncan despite having center size and playing a center like role have always listed themselves as centers.

Yeah but they both played PF for most of their career with an actual center on the roster.  They also both guarded PF's.  To actually play PF, you need to guard PF's.

WCS is a versatile defender.  I'd imagine he would guard the more athletic 4s.  I think those two would be a great pairing.

Maybe Cousins is just saying he wants to play with another real big man, rather than a stretch 4. The actual matchups could vary based on the opponent.

I.e., maybe the emphasis is on "so he doesn't HAVE TO play C"

Vlade Divac is in charge of the Kings now. An unskilled big like WCS doesn't seem like his type of player. Divac was a highly skilled center and had success playing alongside a lot of highly skilled players. I don't think he ever had success as a player alongside a one-dimensional defender/rebounder like WCS. As a consequence, I doubt he rates players like that too highly. Now maybe that is the wrong way of thinking but I would have thought Vlade would be more inclined towards skilled two way players.

I think Sacramento goes with Porzingis, Hezonja, Winslow (if he drops) or S.Johnson. I think the two euros are the most likely options. I really love how Hezonja would fit in that team alongside Cousins and Gay. I am hoping they take Hezonja.

I think Stanley Johnson and Justice Winslow are George Karl type of players. If Sacramento take either of those two guys, I think that will be a sign that Karl has had a lot of influence in Sacramento's draft process. Karl wants to add a stopper on the perimeter. He loves perimeter guys who can change games defensively and give you some offense on the other end.

I think WCS's defensive value is much smaller if he has to play the PF position.

You want that big guy in the paint where he can use his size and length around the basket as much as possible. Not chasing around jump-shooters 15-20 feet from the basket or stretch fours out on the perimeter.

I mean -- the proportion of time WCS spends in the paint / outside the paint defensively. Has to spend much more time away from the basket defensively at PF vs C lessening his opportunity to maximize his defensive talent around the basket.

The Kings draft another shooting guard?

Hezonja is 6'8. He can play SF, with Gay at PF and Cousins at center.

Russilo is mistaken and going off an old quote. WCS would be PF and Cousins C
