I agree........the only way we have a chance is with the first pick.......most of the seven foot guys go first

I think he could go  high as 14

Wow ... A lot of things stood out to me about his interview:

1) He came off very smart. Some of these guys who make poor decisions seem like jocks. Although he is obviously not all about school, he does not seem dumb.
2) He came off very self-aware and genuine. Some guys, when they are trying to reinvent their reputation, come off self-aware and disingenuous, like someone told them what to say. Other guys come off genuine, but completely unaware of how stupid they were.
3) He came off all about basketball. He may not be a player-athlete. He might just be a basketball player.
4) He came off truly regretful about his stupid actions. He did not call them "unfortunate situations" or in some other way abdicate responsibility. He recognized them for what they were, but he also did not want them to define him.

He has franchise-player type talent. If we can get him away from bad influences, and put good influences in his life and a healthy culture around him, I think he could be a star. If he is available at 16, I would take him.

I've been wanting Upshaw at 16 as a "go big or go home" move since we fell into the playoffs and unfortunately necessitated us taking a chance in this draft, unlike having a good shot at Turner at 10-11 if we hadn't. This playoff cameo sucked.

I DON'T want Upshaw to look good NOW. I DON'T want Upshaw to come across well in interviews NOW. I DON'T want to "look" correct NOW. I DON'T want a lot of folks on this board to increasingly like Upshaw NOW, because if we're noticing, you can bet other teams in front of us are noticing.

Upshaw will easily go before 16, if this keeps up. Let's hope not. Very high risk, but potentially very high reward on this guy.....but, those playoffs were great weren't they? (big-time sarcasm)

He prob said the same things after the 1st suspension

I hope he really has turned it around this time.

Too late man. He is already in my top 12(and i really do think somebody will reach for him this early).  Celtics would need to  prob use the 28 to move up to try to grab him/prevent 13-15 teams from taking a chance at him

Will danny take the gamble??

Im loving this if I never had the intention of drafting Upshaw, can get my guy later plus another 1st (draft and stash)

The good news is that there is no dearth of big men in this draft. Between KAT, Okafor, WCS, Turner, Kaminsky, Upshaw, Porzingis, and then second tier/mystery guys like Harrel, Portis, Johnson, McCullough, Wood, Jaiteh, and Diop, teams don't have to reach for Upshaw.

Top tier bigs = 7
Top tier wings = 5
Top tier guards = 2

That's 14 picks, and I haven't even touched second tier guys. I think one of those 14 guys drops to us. I think it will be a big man too.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

From what Danny has been saying recently, it seems like the main thing he sees on the roster is a lack of higher end scoring talent, and his primary goal is to find a way to add "dynamic scorers."  Upshaw has lots of upside, but scoring probably isn't going to ever be his forte.

If Danny takes a risk (and risks don't seem to really be his thing, in the draft anyway) it'll probably be on a wing or big with scoring potential like Dekker, Oubre, Looney, Portis, Booker, or Hunter, or maybe even another scoring guard like Payne or Grant.

The focus on scorers is understandable.  The Celts have managed respectable defense despite the lack of personnel.  The biggest issues were rebounding and finishing.  The Celts learned this year to generate plenty of quality looks, but still lacked the kinds of players who could consistently finish those looks.

#16 doesn't seem like a reach now doesn't it?

Of course the red flags are still there, but it's looking like he's on the right path to being good. That's positive. If he's at #16, we have to get him. It looks like he's going to be rising and rising the closer the draft comes.

I still feel like there's a good chance he has to go through two or three teams before he figures things out enough to be a contributor.

Just the way his body looks and the way he moves reminds me of Vin Baker.  Not his game itself, more just his build and movement.

If Danny wants Upshaw, he'll have to use 16 to get him.  He won't be there at 28.

And I will disagree on account that he fills a need in Boston, and will have plenty of opportunity to show what he has.

He's definitely going to get the minutes here. For him to not be resigned after 3-4 years with constant minutes means he's just not that good. If he's any good, he'll stay with us if we drafted him.

I'd be happy if he reached Vin Baker (before alchohol issues) level. The problem is will Danny draft him or will he be available by the time the C's picks?

Yeah, Baker was a helluva player in his Milwaukee days.

have you seen any evidence to show that he did indeed say these things then? if not, then let's not add to an already questionable record by upshaw.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

It will be very important, to his own well being, just where he actually ends up. He's saying all the right things, and he seems to be aware of his past actions, and that's a good thing.

He needs solid young people around him, and a coach that can mentor him. The Celtics family would be a great place IMO. Perfect young coach for him, a great sense of basketball history surrounding him, and good young hungry players around him.

He's worth a shot...at what number I don't know.
