I really don't want Upshaw, because of the character issues, but something tells me he won't be around at 28.

https://twitter.com/ESPNU/status/598499837357744128

His "un official" wingspan measured at 7'7.5 nuts.

I'd take him at #16. Roll the dice. That type of physical talent is rare.

Knowing Ainge, it seems pretty unlikely.  Perhaps if he packages the second round picks with #28 to move up.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Wood (9'3.5 reach) - wow
Christmas (9'2.5 reach)
Upshaw (9'5 reach)

I think all of these guys just had their stock increase 5 spots in the draft

I don't know much about Upshaw, but I do know you can't teach size. 7' with a 9'5" reach and 7'7" wingspan is ridiculous. If we don't end up trading our pick(s) or packaging them to move up, I'd gamble and take him at 16 just on those factors alone, that is unless Oubre, Johnson, WCS, or Turner would fall that far. I don't really like anyone else in that range for us at 16. Might as well gamble on size and potential.

Upshaw wingspan is 7-5 not 7-7

Does anyone really know what the true, documented story is with Upshaw? Anyone?

I've heard so many different things, smoking pot, taking speed, insubordination, missing practices, others don't like the look in his eyes.

I hope what ever the facts are, that there worth all this apprehension. i hope someone does some real investigating on this kid.

Yeah...I'd rather be safe than sorry too, but I really hope that in 4 or 5 years we're not talking about one of the best centers in the NBA we passed on because he was an immature, wild kid in college.

None of these things matter to me about Upshaw...at all.

We wouldn't even be in the conversation for this guy, but for these "red flags". No red flags>>>>>not a prayer in the blanking world to get Upshaw...None...Zero...We're picking at a real suck spot at 16....we have to take a chance....go big, or go home.

There is a flip side to that coin...we don't want to draft a Larry Sanders or Vin Baker, or Charles Manson either.
Someone, I hope does his do diligence on this 21 year old kid, and we don't just pass on him because everyone else did. So far I haven't heard anything specific, except he was let go from two programs.
The second may have been as a result of the first.

I wouldn't put Sanders in the same group as Baker and Manson, lol ;D. Wow on the latter, btw, haha ;D. Didn't the guy walk away from the game because of depression, or am I wrong, here?  Either way, depression doesn't make you a menace to society or anything, and it's not like it makes you crazy, either.  It's kind of alarming to see how fast teams are to say no to someone with such a problem.  Even Hassan Whiteside has ADD.  Oh know, he's the next Artest ::) (sarcasm)!  I seriously wonder if any of these guys in front offices know anything about such issues, because right now they are doing nothing more than promoting the stigma associated with people who have mental health problems, and it really is scary that they don't even seem to realize what they're doing.  Ugh.

Turner has almost the same wingspan and reach, and at least a semblance of an offensive game.

Upshaw has a nice physical profile for a center. Pretty good athlete also

However he needs to play with more of an edge on both ends. Especially defensively.

Has to clear the drug issues

I would take him at 33 at the earliest.  He needs to provide proof to earn his next contract

Turner needs to get stronger.  He needs to live at the gym
Still can't get the image out of my head of him getting beatup by the Kentucky trees

If guys like Portis, Turner can't hang with Towns, Wcs then how will they do against bigger/stronger/smarter nba pf/centers??

You don't have to do better but not get outplayed

Jarell Martin held his own vs the Kentucky trees. Mighty impressive for a guy that is 6'9.5  with a 6'9.5 wingspan, 235 pounds

I don't know - I would probably take a Vin Baker clone in the draft. He had five extremely productive seasons in Mil, followed by four relatively productive seasons in Sea, before falling off a cliff with Boston.

At the very least, I imagine he would be an enormous trade chip after 2-3 years and he would actually give us about as many good years as Rondo did.

OMG...Why didn't I think of that.
