Approx cap space currently available - $25 million
G Wallace =$10 million

Cap space potentially available $35 million

Free Agents to pursue:
Targets: C Gasol (unlikely), PFC Aldridge, PF Love, C D Jordan, C G Monroe, PF Millsap

sign Aldridge and D Jordan will take up ~$36-38 million of cap space (short $2-3 million)
max contracts for each approx $18-19 million.

1) Trade G Wallace + future #1 pick for cap space

2) Trade Olynyk AND Sullinger ($3.5 mm out) + #28 OR #33 pick to Portland for Meyers Leonard ($2.3 mm IN) and Aldridge (S&T)  [created another $1.5 cap space]

3) Sign DeAndre Jordan

4) S&T using $12.9mm Rondo exception + future #2 for a scoring wing (M Ellis, Middleton)

Roster
Smart, Thomas
Middleton, Bradley
Turner, Young
Aldridge, Leonard
Jordan, Zeller

I hope it was that easy and I certainly do not mind that at all. In my opinion, like a lot of teams. Once the first domino falls, others will follow

If Danny can work his magic and score the first big free agent, then I assume, finding another one won't be as hard. (one can wish)

In a way it is. Why? Because there are other options as well, there are 3 PFs Love, Aldridge and Millsap and others like Al Jefferson and 2 Centers, Jordan and Monroe and others like Tyson Chandler and Asik.

There are only so many teams that have the cap space to pursue these players.  Some teams might prefer to spend on wings or PGs (K Leonard for example).
We need big man help and it is available
Also some teams may want to wait until next year for a chance at bigger fish like Durant.

If only Portland would under-value Aldridge that much...

Aldridge is an unrestricted FA. If he desires to sign with the Celtics, why shouldn't Portland help themselves in the process by getting a #1 in the process and 2 PF/Cs?

Because Aldridge would just sign the more lucrative deal with another team at that point, since S&T contracts are more limited than a straight up UFA deal.

I'd be happy with signing Millsap for the max if Atlanta doesn't want to give that much money to a 30-year-old, then signing using the rest of the cap space to sign a center like Omer Asik or Robin Lopez.

You have to renounce that trade exception to create the cap space to do the free agent signings you mentioned.

Yep.

Which is why I maintain that the Celtics will not have big cap space this offseason. Ainge will use the TPEs, MLE, and keep cap holds from his UFAs in the event that he can use them in sign and trade.

Edit: to my point, Bass has a cap hold of $10 million this summer. Jerebko has a cap hold of $8.5 million. If Ainge renounces their rights to free up cap space, then they cannot be brought back without using cap space.

Throw max offers around, hope one or two stick.

Are we talking about giving Aldridge a max deal?  Because they've changed the rules on sign-n-trades.  Teams can no longer sign a player to a 5 year max deal and then immediately trade him to another team.

You're basing this off on? You renounce the TPEs, trade/stretch Wallace, you'd have $29-$32+ million give or take in cap space.

See my edit above re: UFA cap holds.

Ainge would have to renounce a lot of potential assets to free up the cap space to lure a max free agent. It seems counter to his style.

Renouncing UFA cap holds is pointless to consider. If you're signing a free-agent you're after, you renounce them. It's really not worth giving thought to that.

The only one you wouldn't do is Crowder solely because his cap hold is very small, and you can sign him to a bigger contract after all our FAs signings, if any.
