I was watching NBA TV last night when the Mavs game concluded. Nate Robinson was on the panel and he was giggling when they were talking about Rondo. Especially when they showed the clip of Rondo not speaking to the reporters, Nate was giggling and I'm pretty sure he said "Just another day." or something like that in a low voice. Just thought it was interesting, did Nate get on well with Rondo when he was here?

So, ultimately, which former Celtic was better for Dallas?  Antoine or Rondo?

This is how I feel about that Dallas first rounder next year:

I bet they sign Aldridge

I don't understand why Aldridge would go there aside from it being his home state (in which case the Spurs would probably be a lot better fit). They are possibly having an ancient Dirk on their books for 8 million, Felton likely opting in for 4 million, Devin Harris for a little over 4 million, Parsons for 15 million (which looks like a real bad signing now). That's it. They have Chandler, Ellis, Aminu, Stoudamire and everyone else as a free agent. They have to let those guys all go to have some cap space. Maybe Cuban can work some magic but it looks like a bad offseason to have that kind of money with very limited big name free agents that are not restricted.

ESPN sources says Mavs are ruling out Rajon Rondo indefinitely after back injury he sustained in Game 2

Eerie how similar Toine was to Rondo.  Seriously.  That's creepy.  They both were beloved, but supremely overrated by Boston.  They both got exposed in Dallas.  Hopefully Rondo's post-Dallas career isn't as dismal.  I think he will bounce back as long as the team he signs with is prepared to cater to his strengths and weaknesses.

I know that we disagree on this, but what Rondo did while he was here easily trumps anything that Antoine ever managed to accomplish.  They're actually not even close, imo.  I only brought this up because they were both all stars who were traded to Dallas, lol. ;D

The guy is gone. Why so hateful? Let him go. Stop bashing. Just forget him.

Oh wait! Who cares about an idol? We can have an athletic big, oh-my-god-he-can-dunk, as dumb as a doorknob, functional illiterate like WCS, McGee, Sanders or Upshaw. They are beloved around here, not Rajon. That explains a lot about some people.

While we're talking about illiteracy, "functional" is an adjective.  In your sentence, it's modifying "illiterate", which is also an adjective.  That's not proper grammar.  You should have instead written "functionally illiterate", since you need an adverb, in this case "functionally", to modify your adjective, in this case "illiterate."

Anyway, jut a tip: When questioning the literacy of people you've never met (and really have little idea about -- did you know Willie Cauley-Stein likes writing poetry and reading it at open mic nights?) it's a good idea to be dead-on perfect with you grammar.  Because, you know what they say about glass houses and all.

I usually enjoy your posts. Not this one. -5 TP figuratively speaking.
This kind of stuff is not needed on Celticsblog.
It seems like we should teach some EQ around here.
Clearly, the last post was inappropriate as well. But you shouldn't retaliate.

Dallas has become the graveyard of many careers.  I heard that Rondo was mumbling to Carlisle On his way out, "So it Goes.....".

I hate to say this because I really liked him as a Celtic.  But I saw what Rondo did to the Celtics in his return.  He still has it.  Give him a reason to play - usually, an opportunity to stick it to somebody - and Rondo is great.  But right now, the greatest 'stick it' target he has is his own team, and he's doing a marvelous job.

I believe he can still play.  He's just choosing not to right now.  I don't believe for a second that he's fallen this far.  Is he a good fit for the Mavs?  No.  Hell no.  But this isn't the case of a misfit (like Josh Smith in Detroit) or a player who just doesn't have it anymore (like, arguably, Dirk).  This is just somebody who hates his situation.

And I think a lot less of him for the way he's handling it.  This is really sad to see.

For Rondo to succeed, he just needs to have the ball in his hands at all time, he needs to be surrounded by decent mid-range shooters, he needs to completely control the offense, and he needs lots of minutes so he has time to get big stats.    If a team is prepared to give him that, he'll be right back to averaging 9 points and 10+ assists.

If you try to put him in a system like Dallas (or the way the Celtics currently play) he'll fail miserably, because he's a garbage shooter and nobody respects him without the ball.  This has been obvious for several years.   Glad "Rondo Civil War" is officially over.   The naysayers won.

All points obvious to those of us who don't irrationally worship individual players.

But a sad story. Among those who chronically overrated Rondo was Rondo himself.

His game - and his attitude - are so intrinsically flawed that he must be surrounded by players who can cover for the multiple holes in his game. And his problems are exacerbated by the fact he's just not interested enough to address the multiple problems with his game - and his lousy attitude.

And until he wakes up, addresses the glaring holes in his game and stops behaving like Michael Jordan, he's well on his way to hubris-ing his way out of this league.

A bit of a Shakespearean tragedy, actually. His fans loved him more than Rondo loved the game itself.

I don't view this as a win. It's a sad story - but one I saw coming from a long way off.

Sorry, but I don't see Rondo, trumping Antoine, during his time in Boston.

Unlike 'Toine, Rondo was surrounded by three HoFers (as well as solid role players), Antoine only had Pierce and some scrubs. And then, in many games, Walker was the 2nd powder keg, who'd kept the C's around, by pure hard work. 'Toine's greatest problem was his poor shot selection and the fact that he couldn't do much, besides hustle plays, however, he was a decent passer.

In contrast, Rondo dribbled around, waiting for Pierce, Allen, or KG, to come off a screen. Sorry, that's being an *assists* collector, not a team ball handler. At least Antoine would have given it off to anyone open, to keep the ball moving in the game. In addition, even though his shot selection was poor, 'Toine still managed a ~40 FG% and was never afraid to take a shot. In itself, it kept opponent's defenses working because you never know when he'd heat up. In contrast, defenses had left Rondo wide open, but tried to limit his drives to the basket. It was a highly effective maneuver, if others weren't coming off a screen.  Antoine's unpredictability, in contrast, was actually useful, as a way to get Pierce open looks.

I'm pretty sure they got along and I remember seeing videos of both of them messing with Shaq and stuff.
