If he had been a Celtic, there's a good chance that Boston would be up 2-0 in this series?  (The question isn't what you think, but what a NBA player might think.)

I don't think anyone here seriously expected the Celtics to win this series, so the best case scenario is that the Celtics put up a good enough fight to make a player think that he can be the difference-maker who puts the team into title contention or maybe a player away from there.  How close are the Celtics to looking that good?

100% agreed.  As usual, people will point at LeBron and Kyrie when identifying the difference makers in the game, but the fact is that we were in touching distance with 2-3 minutes to go and got some huge stops down the stretch.  BUT we didn't close out the defensive possessions with rebounds.  Thompson won them the game at the end and if we had a competent defensive rebounder it would have been a completely different story.

Hey guys new to the forums, watching them stick with cavs had me jacked up I needed to join. I totally agree with this post I was texting my father saying the same thing, there's no way a lottery finish with some guy we get at the 10th or so pick is even close to as attractive to a free agent as a team on the rise with a great young coach going toe to toe with the best player in the world and making him sweat

Interesting topic.

I do hope that someone thinks that, particularly a defensive big man or a scorer who can create. If either (or both) of those types of players see Boston as an attractive destination, there's a good chance we'll have home court advantage next season in the first round of the playoffs :)

As weird as it sounds, if we had Bosh on our team (and he was healthy), I think this series would be 1-1 and there'd be an extremely high chance of an upset.

As Brad Stevens righted the ship after the trade of Rajon and JG, I think this plan has gained some serious momentum.

Even Wyc stated on a front page article recently that BOS won't consider "any" FA - whomever chooses BOS this off-season will WANT to be here and make a difference.

Any FA worth their salt would seriously consider BOS - given how hard they've fought since ASB.

Any serious FA would consider EVERYTHING here...our youth, our spirit, how our GM has managed our resources (multiple draft picks), etc...and our tradition.

This team has made me proud...mistakes have been made in the last couple of games, but no one can doubt our effort.

Going forward the future is bright here.

I think making the playoffs improves our reputation and increases our chances at free agents. We should focus our attention on realistic targets though that fit our system.

I'd like to hope so... and we actually have cap space now. We'll have to see, I'm sick of the "nice weather" arguments if you want to win come here

I think a free agent would believe that he could change a borderline / low seed playoff team like Boston into a mid tier (4th-6th seed) playoff team (like Toronto). Being a contender would still be a long ways off but a young and improving team heading in the right direction.

And that is a good place to be. Probably not good enough for the top tier free agents (Aldridge, M.Gasol - who are likely to demand a title contender) but attractive to the 2nd/3rd tier free agents like a Greg Monroe or a Brandon Knight.

Honestly, I know he's not a FA but someone like DMC could've watched this game and thought he was the difference maker. All of those missed rebounds and empty drives to the lane would've been much more challenging for the Cavs if DMC was in the middle. And after having a good relationship with Malone, I bet he's looking at Stevens in a similar way since Stevens seems to have the reputation as a player's coach.

Only because athletes (and most sports fans, unfortunately) are functional illiterates. The best things about Boston are the Boston Symphony Orchestra (even better now with Andris Nelsons), the Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner, the walkable streets, the Harvard Book Store. Only New York is better. But...
It's nice seeing him get exposed as overrated after having argued with fellow fans for years that he was overrated.. but I don't hate him. I'm looking forward to seeing him [...] bounce around to a couple more teams... eventually come back to Boston[...] and helps us as a role player until he runs himself out of the league.

I think we will have to target a guy who wants to be the man.   We don't have weather, or media opportunities like music or movies.  We need a guy who wants to be the man and have his team, then get him to play team ball once he is here.  I am not sure that guy is out there this year.

But a guy who wants to be the man might think he is missing ingredient on the team.   I think that is our best shot because, these guys play hard, but no one is a huge draw to play with.  IT needs the ball in his hands to be effective.   A lot of the other guys are meh.

Maybe a guy in CANADA will want to escape taxes?  Who I am kidding it is called Taxuschusetts by some.
