We will take turner via trade

Doesn't that guy have knee problems?

some kind of problem. Celtics are not drafting him. Seriously can't see it happening

Look at what Indiana is trying to do, and wanting to go smaller next season.  The trend is already happening

I think he's corrected the problem through physical therapy, though, so that could significantly helps his draft stock.

As for what Portis said - blah, blah, blah.  Most players say that stuff now ::).  It's essentially the equivalent of coaches and gms always saying that 'we couldn't believe that so-and-so was still available' and 'we got the steal of the draft.' ::) Don't tel me - show me.

BeatLA, I'm curious as to who'd you like us see draft if we:

a) move up to the top 7-10?

b) move up to 11-14?

c) keep our picks?

and just for fun, rank your top 4 prospects in order.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Quote
how is he as a rim protector?

Not really, he does have good length, he is an average athlete with some skills.

Nice balanced article here.

The real concern I have is his heart as he lets the game come to him and has about as much fire as a glacier.  He is a good rebounder.  I think this is the main knack on him.   When he does get fired up he can impressive, when not he can play soft.  He has great length.

He shot 5-15 against NC and 5-12 against Wofford in his last two games, not exactly leading the team to the promised land in the NCAAs or rising to the challenge.  Had 2 Rebs vs KY in a regular season game so he can vanish sometimes.   No one did real well vs. them most of the time though.

We could do far worse, than him.

Vs. UNC, he ALSO had 14 freaking rebounds, 5 freaking steals, and 3 assists!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you, talk is cheap. I'm sure JR Giddens and Gabe Pruit said all of the right things too. I like this quote though and a few others this last week that stick out because they say so much more than the typical "been puttin in work" "Trying to improve my jumpshot:" "I've gained 10 pounds of muscle"

What Portis said was candid and genuine, he takes the darkest point in his life and and channels it a pregame ritual. Best kept secret might be a stretch but it's hard to argue that he has been undervalued/underhyped during this pre draft period.

Portis has a max vertical of 31.  Narrow shoulders.

Unimpressive games vs Kentucky and LSU .   Beating up on less talented schools, lesser talent frontcourt players does not indicate automatic success for the NBA.

I don't want Celtics to draft Portis. Don't care how angry he plays

TP!
Portis didn't impress me as he struggled against bigger schools in College, which is why I'd rather pick another player.

I read that he claims he played "angry" and pretended other players slapped his mother I about died laughing.

He plays about as angry as a friendly puppy.

I like this kids size, length and attitude. He defends well, plays hard, and has shooting range on the offensive side too. If he's available at 16, and the C's don't want to take a chance on "the remaining centers available" I would take him in a second.
I see him as a PF, not a center though. There's nothing wrong with having a power forward with length, and the ability to alter shots. From what I've seen and read we could be drafting a fringe all star.

I watched him some, I do not agree with the plays hard part.  He was passive a lot in NCAAs and let the game come to him.  Qualls was the guy on that team that played hard.

I'm surprised that you are so insistent that he doesn't play hard or that he's soft.  Admittedly, I didn't watch a lot of college hoops, but from what I've read, he's almost universally lauded for his toughness, his energy and his motor.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Do they measure shoulders at the combine?

This.

The kid produced in college and has skills that transfer over to the NBA - good lateral movement, decent speed, can alter shots, good offensive rebounding skills, can shoot out to about 17 feet and long. He's not going to be a power player, but he looks like he has some skills and I prefer guys with a high motor. He has a chance to play and even start in the NBA and at the 16th pick that's all you can really ask.

As far as the Kentucky game goes, MANY players this year didn't play well against a team that has two 7 footers who will both be top 10 picks. The other game against Kentucky he went 15/8 and someone mentioned the LSU game - 21 points, 15 boards, 4 assists.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Side note: I really like Kevin O Conner's work, but he's becoming one of these draft guys that overrates all the prospects impact in the league.  He says Okafor is a ten time All Star but not the first pick?  You get Portis and oh sure immediately just trade two promising young bigs we have (Olynyk and Sullinger) to make time for some unproven guy who didn't exactly light it up in college?  A guy who has some potential but clearly could be a bust because he is not an athlete?

I like these guys but that's too much and a big time overreaction.  We need multiple bigs in a rotation and until these guys play in the NBA lets slow down.   I didn't know unproven rookies come in and play 48 mpg.  Lets just say I'm glad he doesn't run the Celtics.

It's like Mel Kiper or Chad Ford, both who I'm sure are glad people don't go back and re evaluate their work very often down the line.  The weathermen of the sports world.

I agree. Portis is a role player at best.  No point of having him in place of Sully or KO

Okafor is not going to be as great as people think. He has mediocre stamina, struggles to run back and forth in between whistles.  Such mediocre defender . We all saw Kaminsky taking him to school
