This franchise could have had an easy path to success. You people bash me for comparing the situation to Philly but let's take the homer glasses off and be honest with ourselves. Is there anyone on our current roster you would rather have than Noel or Embiid? Absolutely the answer is no. How did the Sixers get there? A strong number of tank trades and tank moves. Bass had no business staying. They had no business getting IT. They had no business making most of the moves they did. Crowder is going to be an overpaid bum next year and we will probably pay him since the Green Teamers will cry after making the playoffs.

The "best" part of making the playoffs? We now get to see what value combining the 15th and 25th picks in a trade would have!!! Awesome! They'll never fire the guy just like the Bruins would never fire Sinden but this is awful for the franchise that desperately needs top picks because they'll never be a top free agent destination.

So your solution Tank and more Tank and then lose Tim Duncan to the Spurs bc the ping pong balls do not fall for us?

Sorry, this team is on the road to being a playoff team every season. 

Nobody in this draft is Anthony Davis of Bron Bron so lets stop and be happy that Danny turned nothing into Tyler Zeller, Isiah Thomas, Jerebko and Jae Crowder.

Draft is a crap shoot at best and playoff experience is gold.

Danny set this franchise back, I mean I guess I respect you have your own opinion but explain to me how a team that was in the bottom 5 draft picks at the start of the season and now in the 7th spot in the playoffs is a set back?

Lets burn down the garden and claim the insurance  :)

Brad Stevens was a winner at every level and would not agree to coach a piece of garbage team like Philly for 4 years.

I really have to wonder who are the fans who come and buy tickets to see that team.

Also - who is the FA who would want to sign in a team that has a losing culture and no commitment to any player....

I would normally agree with you that NBA drafts are crap shoots but last years and this one does not seem to be. And this one may possibly be deeper. Say what you want about playoff experience, but have some perspective on the actual draft classes instead of labeling them all as crap shoots.

So far as I can tell, the answer is "no where".
But, maybe we can revisit in 3-4 years.
Until then, I'm going to enjoy the pluck that this Celtics team of youngsters and cast offs is showing.

I'm just amazed by the Sixers business plan.  'Pay NBA prices to watch a minor league quality team for 3 years but trust us, we know what we're doing....'
Even more amazed that people would commit to season tickets with that as mindset....in Philly of all places.

buy the time philly gets there the players will want out--zeller may wind up one of those that don't breakdown,he has alot of room to fill out- he is humble and has work ethic and a pedigree-ainge is  just getting going,he has "the coach" has assembled a competitive team that pleases the fans-i just watched a piece on comparisons kylie irving and isiah thomas and thomas wins--i hope isiah can handle the 6th man stigma he carries in his mind-he thinks if your not a starter your not first team and he has worked his whole life under the too short label--in a way i don't blame him but he does make the second team very effective,cousins was a favorite target for isiah ,they wotked well together,maybe cousins comes to boston and i bet deep down he respects marcus for not backing down and admires brad stevens coaching skills-

Yeah and what happens if the guys in Philly don't work out? They literally do not have a plan B. The Celtics have multiple ways to go because their players are actually performing.

People who think tanking is the only way to go are some of the most short sighted and unimaginative people I can think of.

I agree that we should have went for pick 9 or 10 unless we really thought we could make noise in the playoffs... I think we could maybe beat the Hawks, but even if we did we'd have to place Cleveland at some point and would definitely lose to them. Either way, I think a Stanley Johnson or Justice Winslow (if we were pick 9 in theory we could maybe move up to pick 6 or 7) would help us long term more than this playoff run, but I hope I'm wrong.

It certainly is a way and some of us were hoping for at least  the 9th pick. I don't think that is being short sighted at all. And I think you won't find many people who would support an all out tank.

At this point, I can just look at the title of the thread and immediately know who the OP is.  ::)

Tanking hasn't proven a [dang] thing for Philly yet. However, the OP insists its the foolproof way to success.

Lets look at the situation objectively:
If we do not make playoffs we get ~10th pick.

Making playoffs leaves us with 15-16th pick, and higher trade value for our current players. If you are trying to trade a player on a bad team with gaudy stats some say he has good stats only because of a bad team. However, this argument no longer applies if one makes playoffs. Thus value of our current assets increase by making playoffs. There is also a clear benefit in developing coach and young players. Finally, by making playoffs Boston becomes more attractive to free agents.

Basically, the choice boils down to this: 5 slots pick improvement vs better valuation of your assets, experience, better free agent destination

I prefer playoffs, but I can see how one would want to go for the picks. It is a matter of choice.

Tanking itself is such a longshot, I'd only do it for a top 5.

And even then, maybe not.

Just remember, Michael Olowokandi was once the #1 pick overall.  Sam Bowie, Greg Oden....there are no guarantees.
