It's simple: Rondo is not efficient or effective enough to justify his ball dominance. Couple that with his attitude and he's a player you want to avoid. He's just not worth it, short of a very very affordable contract.

I'd take one effective role guy who knows and plays to that role over Rondo any day. But I guess that's not saying much considerin I'm saying I'd take thin air over Rondo, and save that money and usage for someone else.

I would say he is one of the best build with guys ever. But not a build around guy. He can make players around him better but his shortcomings were tough to swallow.

The thing I find amazing is that when you look at the stats Marcus Smart doesn't seem to be an upgrade, but when you watch it on the court you're just like "I'm not going back".

Another issue is money. When he wasn't making lots he was a great player to have. When he was demanding a lot and sending mixed signals it really is different.

I don't blame anyone for basically seeing him as the Wes Welker of Celtics and then looking over at Marcus Smart and seeing Julian Edelman and being like "Yeah. We don't need that guy" but it could be a bit of a mistake to come to the conclusion that Welker was the problem or was holding us back.

Rondo doesn't have any huge terribly timed drops to his name.

Maybe the Lakers save him, but he has to be wishing he didn't opt to test free agency. And for a guy who is supposedly as smart as he is, it has to be considered a huge misstep to test free agency after coming off a serious injury.

Kind of like Nomar circa early 2000s.

He was hurting the team with his poor attitude .   Some body with a coasting attitude and announcing it publicly is not a person I would want on my team

Danny unloaded a damaged goods litem .  At this point mostly a white elephant in today's NBA

Not the same offensive player since his injury (for whatever reason).

Doesn't play defense like he is capable of (for whatever reason).

Wants to get paid more?

said this from day one... those that cite raw stats about how Rondo played get only part of the picture. The game is about winning and IMPACT... not deciding on one player's "worth" based on stats. Sure he had big assist numbers, because he had the ball 90% of the time. Evan Turner has equal or better numbers than Rondo, which should tell you something. Also, the overall impact of losing Rondo was that others needed to combine to fulfill facilitator roles...which made everyone a bit better IMO.

The key was not how good Rondo is/was... its that he made little DIFFERENCE in our overall success. That is what was relevant here, and what may occur in Dallas. Looking at it fairly (and switching the view)  his stats are down in Dallas due to system changes, so you cant use those numbers to say he is worse.

Echoing some other comments, the Rondo of the Big 3 era brought something to that team that not many others could and, yes, his shortcomings didn't matter so much as they hardly ever cost the team points.

Great players play well no matter how the team is going. The truth could be relied on to perform prior to 2008 and never missed a beat with the arrival of KG and RA.

Agree the real test for Rondo is to prove he has more dimensions and wont only perform when everything is just right for him. He is unique among top PGs and he needs to show that is an asset, not a shortcoming.

Part of me is relieved in some way that the Cs don't rely on him. Another part hopes he has some success, he gave us some great seasons.
