During the pre-game telecast the question was asked to Tommy and Scal. Tommy said Stevens based on the job he's done and that no player really separated themselves from each other. Scal countered by citing the team's record since Smart was inserted in the starting lineup being 7 games over 500 and spoke about how he does so many things on the court that aren't reflected in the box score.

Woo.  I like intangibles as much as the next guy, but I'd like to see Smart actually contribute something to the boxscore.  Besides, Tommy's right - it's Stevens.

Agreed, I'd vote Turner.
It's nice seeing him get exposed as overrated after having argued with fellow fans for years that he was overrated.. but I don't hate him. I'm looking forward to seeing him [...] bounce around to a couple more teams... eventually come back to Boston[...] and helps us as a role player until he runs himself out of the league.

I wouldn't go that far, but he's definitely integral to our success.

I'm with Tommy in thinking Stevens is the MVP, because the beauty of this team is there's no real "most valuable player." We play our best when we're playing as a cohesive unit, and that's all due to Stevens. His system has our team playing way above our collective skillset.

I say ET too.

TP, Eddie for the thread. How about a poll.

Would love to see ET get The credit he deserves but a lot of people are not really kind to him here?

An ET led team being 8 games below .500. Sounds about right.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Without a doubt, the biggest surprise of the year has been Tyler Zeller...

Agreed.  He's been instrumental in our success this year.  He can be frustrating at times, sure, but at least we have someone who can actually create his own shot when the game's on the line.

See, this is what I love about our team. There is no one answer to this question. You could conceivably argue that any one of a dozen players is the MVP of the team. You could look at Avery, the longest tenured Celtic for bringing leadership to the team. You could look at Thomas as being the spark-plug that brought the team together. You could look at Turner, who has excelled in every role Stevens has put him in. You could look at Bass, as a steadying force, on the court and off. You could look at Smart for sparking a defensive intensity. You could look at Zeller, the surprise of the year, and a surprising contributor in our frontcourt.

Finally, you could look at Stevens as the architect of this messy, imbalanced roster that has somehow bonded together and fit just well enough to make a playoff push with 5 games to go. This is the most likable team we've had since 2012 at least.

Well, per game it has to be IT. But given that he played so few - he does not qualify.

Our two most efficient players have been Zeller and (believe it or not) Sully. Given that Sully - who was posting incredible rebounding numbers prior to his injury.

That being said - Zeller is the biggest surprise of the season, and my MVP followed by ET who I love as the "do it all" point forward.

BTW, for those nominating Stevens (who is doing a great job) - if we are expanding the discussion beyond players - how about giving it up for DA who got Zeller + Pick + ET for nothing, and traded Rondo for IT + Pick.....  There is a reason every GM in the league is cautious about "Trader Danny"...

Totally agree. I thought it was a great move at the time just because we got him, a big expiring and a 1st (Traded the latter two for IT) basically for nothing! He's a true 7 footer and I thought he had some upside but he's played far beyond my expectations. He's dominated meaningful games at times. He's ultra-efficient and while I still don't think he's a viable long-term starter at the 5, he's clearly carving out a strong NBA role for himself. I want him around when were good again, definitely. Smarts defense surprised me too. I never watch much college, and from the videos/reports I read on the draft he seemed like a good defender, but he's an absolute savant on D.

Far as MVP goes, I think it's Stevens. But if were only talking players then Bradley, Smart, Turner and Crowder are probably all pretty close for me. Bradley has been our most consistent offensive threat. He's deff improving in his overall game, but Stevens has really done a great job of getting him great looks for those catch and shoot 3s that are his bread and butter. Smart deserves far more credit for his role in this teams overachievement. Beyond the intangibles and defensive prowess, his leadership and hustle are infectious. He's made some huge plays in the clutch and He sets the tone for the team. Turner has really adapted to the role Stevens has set for him and he's made some big plays too. Crowder been great. The Rondo trade was decried when it was made but now it looks like a steal.

Stevens is the engine that drives the car though. He's the MVP
