Did you forget we made the Finals and were one ACL away from winning with Nate Robinson as our first guard off the bench?
Case in point... Nate Rob was relegated to 7 minutes off the bench during the playoff run.  He had 7 Coach Decision DNP's.  Gimmicky players like Nate Rob, Boykins and IT are fun, but have no place on a contender.

Michael Finley almost played as many minutes as Nate Rob during the playoff run... I'd guess like 90% of this forum forgot that Michael Finley was even on the Celtics at one point.

He's a gimmicky inefficient player.  Like Nate Robinson and Earl Boykins, he can provide a spark off the bench for a mediocre team, but usually has no place on a contender.
Guess Jamal Crawford and Ginobli are gimmicky players they score off the bench and their D sucks.

Maybe a little.  Let's look at the peak Per-36 minute stats of each micro-player.

24 year old Robinson:  20.7 points, 4.9 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals on 44%/33%/84% shooting

30 year old Boykins:  17 points, 5.2 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1 steal, 42%/40%/90%

24 year old Thomas:  21.1 points, 6.5 assists, 3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 45%/35%/85%

Both those guys look like Andre the Giant next to IT.

The point of this whole thread is that IT is a defensive liability. So are these two.

Much ado about nothing, really.  I doubt IT will be here long.  He's a trade chip.  Zach Lowe summed it up nicely:

Thomas filled a need in Boston, but the Celtics wouldn?t have dealt for him unless they believed his cheapo long-term contract represented a more liquid trade asset than the first-rounder they sent out.

I still have a hard time getting too attached to this team when it's pretty clear the majority of them will be gone in a couple years.   Those of you who imagine IT as the future starting PG on this team are probably going to be disappointed.

Im not so sure that he will be gone although I certainly wouldnt be surprised if he is moved. Also I dont see him ever starting on a playoff team due to the defensive issues. I see him as a perfect 6th man especially if we keep Smart and AB as our back court going forward as he excels in the areas they struggle, and they excel in the areas he struggles.

So why be bumped about having him? C's are a long ways from winning a title they need more than Smart developing and IT on the bench. They need upgrades or development at every spot. IT being singled out for height is silly honestly given his role is not the starter and all he brings. If your beef is we are better with him but mediocre and you rather have tanked better by not acquiring him then I could understand that position.

TP.
Occasionally Raaaaaaaandy or Celtics2030 will remind us that player Z on some other garbage team is far superior, but that is more of a special order type thing. Its only for special occasions.

Though it is worth noting they arent wrong as much as I would like

lol "vendetta"? I like IT but I don't like small ball and pointed out that there is a history of it not being successful.

and the point(that most missed) was more about my dislike about Danny's infatuation with undersized players or small ball in general. and IT's defensive disadvantage last night was a perfect example of why these players are an exercise in futility.

again breaking even is not winning.

David vs. Goliath is a great story that does not always play out well in sports.
