Seems that Smart has read this forum and totaly shut our mouth up. I believe this was not accidentally. 7/12 from the arch. Not only that he shoots, but shows pretty much self-confidece while shooting. I don't expect huge things from him as a shooter, but now I expect he'll be way better from Rondo and his wooden hands. Just keep shooting, son.

33% from the field this month. Can we stop over reacting to one game?

Thanks.

Thank goodness for that one good game, then...hopefully he can build upon that (and I think that he should be able to) - 33% is probably not where he will average out for his career.

Agreed, but Smart is a far better shooter than I expected.

It's based on your perspective, quite simply
We're the same and we're not; know what I'm saying? Listen
Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

If I was the Celtics coach, I would have everyone shooting threes at the end of practice.

The NBA is all about the three point shot now.

I wish we had signed Korver.

Good that he showed enough confidence to let them fly. It takes some time to develop an alpha lead guard mindset and status. Games like this are proof of concept to a player by showing that the potential is there. Some guys have big games and think they've arrived, lose focus on getting better, plateau then fade. High character guys like Smart though can have a big game and wonder what it will take to do that night in and night out.

My hope for Smart is that he adds to his game year after year. A nasty floater, a simple but effective post move, a couple new fakes(IT could give him a hand with that one) even something like an automatic corner 3. That's what it takes to be great, he has the foundation, it'll be his approach in the offseasons that will determine the type of player he can become.

Totally agree. AS of yet there is no reason to think he won't improve  all around and at a faster than average rate.

He can shoot, but he will not be a big time scorer in the NBA. I do feel he will be a reliable 3 point threat from here on in. He still needs a game in the paint, like a floater off the dribble, a fall away in the paint, and just flat out getting to the rim. etc.

Marcus Smart should be able to average 15 points a game, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steels for years to come. That, along with his already smothering defense, a defense that is still developing mind you, will be a lot of fun to watch.

Speaking of a nasty floater. I probably liked that floater in the last game more than his threes. If he can add that alone to his game it will open up a whole lot more for him and the team.

He's a rookie. I love when I hear all these declarative statements of "he will be...", "he wont be..." with rookie players. Everybody makes it sound like every great player in the history of the NBA stepped on the court day 1 and had every weapon in the book, and never developed a single thing the rest of their career.

Smart is going to be a great player, I fully believe that, because he has a strong foundation, and the right personality. He wont accept failure, it's not in his makeup.

So I am guessing declarative statements about what a player will be are only wrong if they are negative?

He's not even in the top 400 in field goal percentage.  This would be like calling Isaiah Thomas a rim protector after he got a single block.

Marcus Smart is an exceptional defender. His offensive game is garbage slow-cooked in a crock pot for 24 hours until the garbage is literally falling off the bone.  Maybe it improves.

Not me. Free throws need to be the point of emphasis. This team misses way too many of them.

I agree with the not shooting well on the year. He had a few good games and one small stretch. As a rookie that isn't too bad. Next year there should be a good deal more consistency. But I don't expect good %s till 23 or 24 years old.

reminds me of a young Chauncey Billups on offense, with elite defense(gary payton) . If he reaches his potential he will be in multiple all-star games .
