found replay of datome defensive lapse ,gets caught coming forward and awkwardly tries to recover very poor position and footwork, this is not the first time he has been beat like this, ,when i read his scouting report when he was young it said he had lateral speed, from what ive seen he uses his quick reach to block guys that beat him,he is much like prince players underestimate his reach, like his european passing skill ,he can whip it in odd ways-great pass at end of game-north end has a hero no pun intended of course.       lets have a contest for a datome pizza

I just want to know what we're talkin about.

He's talking about Gigi taking Youngs minutes, and how well he's been playing.

He's not the best defensive player, or quickest, but like Prince he's long and can recover.

Makes good passes, has the euro skill that a lot of NBA players lack, which makes up for some of the lack of physical skills.

North End has a new champ, and wants to get a pizza named after him.

I have an aunt that types like this, lots of random thoughts, fumbled together.

Papa Wallace's public rebuke of Young James suggests he wasn't really quite earning his time anyway. Gigi's emergence seems to have cemented the cost for that.

Let's hope it's a lesson that helps Young to work harder and with more focus than he apparently has managed to date.

Perk came to the league straight out of high school, but within a couple of months of Young's age. And he started out playing only 35 minutes his first year, 548 his second, while his minutes played climbed consecutively through his first six years in the league.

Young's at 301 minutes played right now, and with the way things are going he could well finish under 400 minutes on the year. But if he needs to improve his professionalism, falling out the rotation could be an invaluable lesson for a young guy.

I don't think Young is freaking.

He will have a better career than Gigi...and don't get it twisted, I like and appreciate Gigi's game.

Honestly I think overall this is a good thing for Young, he's not being given anything. He's super young and will have to work extra hard to earn a spot in the rotation. I think this will light a fire under him in all honesty.

Young is playing not even good offense, never mind defense where he is seriously embarrassing.  He has no right to play.   I wouldn't play anyone who plays defense like that.

Agree 100%.  Adversity builds character.

We could ship him to the D-League, where he would be awesome, but against lesser talent.  There are times where that kind of experience is necessary for developing a player's talent and skill sets.

However, in Young's case, I believe he's learning a LOT more by being the odd man out of the rotation right now.  He gets to see first hand of the play of his teammates that is keeping him on the bench, and being challenged to improve so that will be him on the court in the future.

Life doesn't hand things to you on a silver platter...he'll earn his minutes because he will HAVE to earn them.  I appreciate that approach from Coach.  In the long run, it's the one that will be most successful for Young and the Celtics.

Hopefully, Young is learning what it takes to get on the floor and stay on the court.   I admit it he looks lost on the court sometimes.

Exactly, he's 19 years old and has a TON of potential. He's the only guy on the roster right now who I could potentially being a 20ppg player, due to his shooting stroke. Young needs to learn how to play defense, not just man to man but help D. Not like Gigi is the best defender but he's got more experience going up against NBA players than Young due to his age.

Everyone calm down and be patient, the kid will develop...he has to because we need a knockdown shooter for the future and I feel like he's going to be that guy in a few years.

Datome has been outplaying him.  If he wants minutes, he has to make shots and play better, especially in practice.

In hindsight, looking at when Datome got here in a trade, I suppose we shouldn't as surprised this is happening.  Stevens has been dying for some veterans on this team, guys with some professional basketball tread.  And while Datome hasn't been in the NBA very long, let's not forget that he was the MVP of a few different Italian leagues, so he has skills and has proven more than James Young.

But I agree with everyone else, he's only 19...he's got a long way to go.  He'll get his shot eventually, even if it's not with the Celtics
